hi my 640 ford doesnt like to go into gear when its cold out i had a guy say its probly moisture is this comon and what oil do they take so i can drain and replace the old thanks mitch

It probably has 90 weight gear oil in the trans. Switching to New Holland 134 (or equivalent universal transmission fluid) will give you smoother shifting in cold weather. While your at it, change out the other two reservoirs (hydraulic and differential) as well. You can use 134 in all three.

What Mark says...
Also, check the color of the oil. If it looks milky you probably have water in your oil and it will cause several cold weather problems.

It somewhat the nature of the beast,,, the trans is a constant mesh and the oil will cause alot of drag cold, almost any oil,,, fresh oil will make a improvement,,, I do not run 90wt.,,, i use 80/90 in the gear box are 134,,, going from 90 to 80/90 makes a big improvement on a cold start up but will not totally eliminate the drag,,,134 won't either but its a a improvement over 80/90 far as cold operation

I take it you are not having gear clash problems its just hard to select a gear,,, most Ford guys train their mindset to wait a few min when its cold out B-4 we run to go get the paper
