I need a block bored in central Minnesota

Does anyone know a good place to go to get a block bored around central Minnesota? I need a 1947 JD A bored .45 over and im not sure where I can take it. Do you know how much this normally cost? Thanks for the help.

i think Ickler bearing and machine can do it, and across the corner from them is a national bushing, may be called something else now. They do a lot of engine work.

in the dot com era of 1990s, National Bushing changed their name to "Auto Value."

They also do machine shop stuff. (ST cloud MN area code) 251 3221 ask for the shop between 8 and 4 mon-fri.
most any auto value store in MN is associated with the same chain as that st cloud one with the shop, and send their shop work to that st cloud location. the litte falls mn store also has a machine shop.

ps. there are a few small guys that do it in their back yards (in a garage) too scattered all over, but you gotta talk to mechcanical people locally to find them. it's always the least likely person.

One thing I have heard from some of the two cylinder guys is to find a shop that commonly bores bigger blocks. They told me the shops that do mainly car engines might have a boring bar that is stretched to the limit doing a block with a bore the size as one from a two banger Deere.

Sorry, I can't recommend a shop in your area cause I don't live in your neck of the woods. I do know Arnold motors in Spencer Ia does a bunch of 2 cyl blocks and they are good at it. Jim

There's an Auto Value in Aitkin MN.
Also a NAPA. Both owned by locals. Been there many years.
Now there's an Oreilys and someone like AutoZone just moved in. Lots of fanfare, sales and mailings.
I doubt the town can support all four of them. Someone's gonna have to close. I'm hoping the local boys can kick the new guys out.

Paynesville Tractor is one of the best places in central MN.
Is there enough cylinder wall in an A block to bore it out
450 thousandths? Sure hope that is a typo and you meant
.045! Good luck with your project.
