Smart man...... I know one that commented on the way things were going in Iraq that retired real soon. He had pretty high hopes prior to that.

No, I was not signed up for the Air Force took the test. The next morning I was to be sworn in and my dad came in my room and asked if I would reconsider staying at home and helping him on the farm since we had 4 brothers in the military already I think the sleepless nights with he and Ma started to wear on him.

Yah thanks for your service Joe, even if I joined the military I would've ended doing the same as I do now..machinery or farming you love it or leave it..

Joe I know where you are coming from. We had a old lifer that worked at the lumber yard, and the whole town was ticked off at his coments etc.

I could not understand, and my brother was always in a notion to smack him. Once I paid attention, he talked his military talk, you always put your buddy down with a smart a$$ answer--that is how you talk in there, and never do anything more than what you have to.

Once I spread the word, the whole town pretty much accepted him, and years later understood alot of his background. He was a very good person under all the huff and bluff, and had alot of town people at his funeral.

We are all products of our surroundings. Give your son some time to cure out. Try to avoid choooooocking the living crap out of him in the mean time. He probably isn't aware of it anyway.

Last of all, he will help pick out your nursing home so show some kindness now. Kids do get the last say!

Ever stop to think your advice may not be good? Judging by some of your posts I've seen on here, that's a real possibility. Having the confidence to step up and take control of a situation shows he's not a little boy anymore.
My father did a tour of duty in the Air Force in the Korean war. My brother is a career military man in the Army and says he will retire when he gets to 30 (has been in 24) years of service. Both my Dad and Brother have taken advice from me, and the other way around. I only wish I had had the good sense when I was 18 to have done at least 1 enlistment in the military...

Just so I don't have to be upstaged here, I was called a General in boot camp on the second day mater of fact. And I was called a special kinda general----up! Mom was so proud when I graduated from a magot to a poop head. I think the problem lies in the fact that my drill sargent did not understand me being me, and insited on changing that. Maybe I should have offerd a big hug to him!

Way to much time on my hands, I know!!!!

I hated the Navy until I got some rank then it wasn't so bad. hated some of the old timers that thought i was just a Smart a$$ kid who new everything (Hey its not fault that my IQ is over 130) That is a curse also Ask anyone who has one.
But I did one hitch got out and later joined the Naval Reserve that was fun really enjoyed the two weeks duty cause I new I was going back home real fast.

Past is past guys..There's no comparing to "when I was in". Well, when the ships are at sea, the Navy guys are still dance partners for the Marines, but other than that..........There are always going to be exceptions, but soldiers today are pretty high speed.

MN Joe pretty much has it. There are other peculiarities associated with them.
Some have went back in the service because they couldn't handle the outside world, weird, but about the same you hear from inmates.
You may not recognise it in your family.

BEING A NAVY VET, I THINK THE MARINES ARE BELLHOPPS FOR THE NAVY.... AS FAR AS GITMO PRISON, I THINK ITS A GOOD PLACE TO KEEP THE BAD GUYS. LET EM GO AND WE'LL JUST HAVE TO FIGHT THEM AGAIN.. LUCAS
