'37 JD D stuck, any ideas?

Playing with a old D in rough shape, Motor is stuck, Has Aluminum pistons. Already have some diesel/parts cleaner solvent sitting in the cylinders. Chained a pressure treated 4x4 to the flywheel in hopes to break it loose. Its been set up for years I would guess. Any ideas?

A lot of guys use automatic transmission fluid. If the head is off try to get the front end of the tractor as high up in the air as you can so the fluid gats all the way around the pistons.

Let me say first I have not unstuck any engines. It seems that if it has aluminum pistons and you have the head off you could put some heat to the pistons with a rose bud. Aluminum conducts heat very well so the whole piston will heat up and it expands quite a lot so a couple of cycles of that may loosen them up enough to break loose.

The rings rust tight to the cylinder walls.I doubt the pistons are involved.I have to turn my JD over a few times during winter to avoid sticking.

When I unstuck my F20, I tried just about every solvent listed on YT. After a year, none of them worked. What did work, I cleaned out all the stuff that was in the cylinders and sprayed them with Fluid Film. Fluid Film had it free in about an hour.

Best way to guarantee no damage to other parts is to pull cylinder block off the main case, with the pistons and rods attached. Then cut a steel plate that will just slip into the cylinder. You can drive or press out the pistons without the possibility of damaging push rods, rocker arms, connecting rod, etc. Even if you break a piston, they can be replaced and you will likely need to replace the rings anyway.

Mike,
Head off or on, I've had luck getting the block HOT with water, and hosing CO2 into the pistons, then turning crankshaft backwards;clean bores behind piston and lubricate. Place something against the flywheel to keep a constant pressure on the turning direction (2 pipes in the flywheel holes, bar between them and hydraulic jack lifting the bar)

Knock the porcilin off a spark plug. Drill and tap it for grease zerk. Fill grease gun with favorite penetrant and pump until you bend the handle.
