I've been told that potash prices and nitrogen are way down compared to last fall.Every fertilizer supplier I can get a price from have all filled up last fall at record high prices. Is there anyone out there that has fertilizer cheaper than 1000 a tonne or had I may as well forget it and get used to the idea of paying that for it???

Do what you want to do,but I'm waiting as long as I can and shopping around. There must be somebody around here that didn't buy a whole years supply at those prices. I'll go back to sidedressing anhydrous this year instead of preplant if it means saving a fortune on later shipments.

Dealer just called me this week , I booked 30% liquid N for $350/ton, same price I got about 14-15 months ago. central NY

Don't be afraid to call farther afield, even if you have to get together with some neighbours, the price differences will pay for a lot of trucking. I know guys that are bringing fertilizer 10-12 hours by truck and coming out ahead of what the local prices are.

Mine was put down this fall for $1085/ton for DAP and $825/ton for potash. I usually have the N. priced by now but not this year. Some serious shopping will be done between now and spring. Might even get together with a big farmer neighbor. The local elevator claims they don't cater to the big guys but they still do just that. Jim

I dunno...
It's not so simple when there's two suppliers is it?
I don't feel so bad about not using all of what I bought last year.

If I had to guess I'd say that Mr. I. has done his buying more carefully that the Agromarts, but you never know.
I'd also suspect that sales will be very slow this spring on fertilizer. I know I have absolutely no intention of buying anything that I don't absolutely need, nor do the neighbours from what I hear.
If they're sitting on inventory, crunch time will come.... something will give.
You might also find that one years worth of small purchases won't kill you either.

Local coop was asking 385.00 for 28%. four of us went together and told them we wanted 12 semi loads for 250.00 ton and 25% down now and pay rest when delivered to farm. He looked on his computer and in one minute he said it a deal.
(collective bargining) it works.

Prices are dropping some.

The problem is, if less bought this fall than normal, and the pipeline is all full of the expensive stuff, how will we ever get enough this spring?

Farmers wait untill spring to buy. There isn't enough around to fill demand, and no way to ship it in fast enough.

I'm not sure what will happen.
