Toilet Paper Oil Filter

Changed all the fluids and filters in my "04 F350 yesterday. Was surprised to find that one of the transmission oil cooler filters was a miniature roll of toilet paper. Guess that everything that is old will become new again. While sorting through my deceased FIL"s stuff several years back, I found several of those old TP filters. Kind of wished that I had saved at least one of them.

the Franz filter were popular in the 1960's, but i would not have one of them. seems to me like toilet paper, being very thin, would become saturated and get into the tiny engine oil passages. i figure if they were any good, then the big three automakers would factory install them.

An interesting idea, they used to advertise in
"Popular Mechanics" magazine, in the 50s, but
I was always leary of them falling apart, and,
as others said, plugging small oil passages.

I just thought that it was interesting that the same basic technology was still being used. I'm sure that it wasn't actually toilet paper, but was the same principle. Paper wound around a cardboard tube approximately three inches long and about 1 1/2 inches wide. Don't think I would use the old TP filters on any of my vehicles, just would be neat to have for a conversation piece.
