NH Skidsteer Hydraulics Questions

Just got the L785 project skidloader operational and I have 2 questions.
-When the 2 speed is in high range(fast) it really has a fairly loud "hydraulic whine" noise. The loader travels fine. Is this whine normal or is there something wrong or misadjusted?

-I adjusted the control levers to the service manual specs, and the machine doesnt creep, but I can hear a little noise from the hydraulic system. If I hold the levers just right I can get the noise to go away, but I cant ever adjust the levers to that exact position. Will the noise cause any long term problems?
THanks
Mike

As skid-steers (or anything hydrostatic drive for that matter) age the tolerances inside the hydrostats are not as close as they once were they will develop a whine. As long as it drives/pulls ok dont worry about it, hydrostats are real good about telling on themselves when going bad.

I'm sure you know not to do any work with the machine in high side. Service it run it till it quits.

Normally it wont hurt the machine to whine unless it's caused from the wrong oil, if the machine were off the ground with no resistance on the wheels it probably would creep with the noise you describe at neutral, it's not exactly centered but it's hard to get exact without a bunch of new parts. Long as its not creeping as it sits on the ground dont let the noise bother you.

Ok, you make my mind rest easier. I assume a good hydraulic oil is fine? I was using Case Hytran and Wolfs Head hydraulic oil since thats whats on my farm.
Thanks

The Case oil should be fine I'm not familiar with the other brand but basically your looking for a good quality oil with anti-foaming properties, it wont be the cheap buckets, foam (air) is what kills hydros. I think its NH that wants you to use engine oil for hydraulic fluid but it's not necessary.

Later NH SSL's take motor oil in the hydrailic/hydrostatic system. L785 specifies 134D. The Case oil should be fine.

Here is my opinion.
1. Check that all fluids are up to right level, this will make sure that the pump is not starved for fluid.

2. Is the oil good and clean, (new would be nice)

3. Get the machine up on jacks and run the wheels and listen for clunking, does the bucket lift up and down, tilt without bad noises.

4. Is the final drive of the machine gear or hyd. only. I would think that the machine is gear cause my hydro stat trans makes a little bit of a whine in high gear. I almost only run it in low cause of plowing snow. My final drive is gear cause of the hi/low range lever.

HyTran was originally designed for Hydrostatic transmissions with additioal wear, anti foam, anti corrosion, etc. Of all the fluids it's the best. HyGuard is also really good. Don't know much about 134A

I realize some want you to use motor oil. I don't understand this as the detergants in motor oil in most modern motor oil's cause it to foam unless your using streight weight non-detergant

-Fluid is up to the right level
-Loader had a bad leak when I got it, so most of the fluid is new. All new filters
-Bucket and everything operates properly
-The final drive is also the hydraulic resovoiur, so thats not a question as far as level...
