tractor tires

I just bought a D-17 Allis that needs tires. I asked my parts manager at work and Titan's and Goodyear's are $450 ea for 16.9-28's. (Eastern Iowa Tire) A little surfing on the web I found Tire Town in Leavenworth KS has new rears for about $220 ea. Could be worth the drive from DSM. Where do you guys go for tires?

I bought some 12.4x38 8 ply rated for my "H" this summer from Nebraska tire. they were 300+100 shipping +50 for the tube. It was the cheapest I could find.

I didn't get deep enough in their web site to check shipping, but these guys have more tires than any other 5 places I've ever seen.....put together. They're about 25 miles from me.

Brian, ask them about EUASKDIZ I bought a set from Harry's afew years back for less than 200 a piece.(I saw eastern Iowa so I thought may be you might be close enough). They are a BFG knockoff.

From what I've seen and read, most of Tire Town's tires are Titan blems (buffed), but haven't bought anything from them in the way of tractor tires for several years.

What do you mean "buffed"? Is it like "flashing" and they manually buffed that off the tire, or other cosmetic defect that the manufacturer didn't want their name on it so they buffed the whole sidewall?

Me? A good local Firestone or Michelin dealer that backs what they sell.
Personally I won't buy Titan tires for any price.
I've always had decent luck with GoodYear bias tires in terms of reliability, but they wear fast, pull poorly and ride rough. For certain applications, where a cheap tire will do, they work out as they are a CHEAP tire.
Titan's seem to lose their sidewalls around here.

When you buy from tire town you get what you see. Buffed means no warranty implied or expressed. If you do check with them you might see if the still run a truck to Des Moines every week. Could save shipping. Oh and in my opinion Titan only makes blems.

I have bought tires from Tire Town 4.00X15 they are buffed TITANS will las on the A and B farmalls longer than i will need. Rear ones for hard use would maybe not the best.

Where in NS sells Titan ag tires? The reason I ask is that I have a Farmall Super M that needs a full set of rubber. I don't intend to restore it just yet and it probably wont see even 50 hours a year. For that the almost $1500.00 for a set of Firestones seems a tad steep. Other than that is there anywhere I might find a set of used (and still somewhat usable) 13.6 or 14.9 38's? Thanks, Sam

Coast Tire, or any other GoodYear dealer should have them but I honestly expect the Titan's to be more money than the Firestone. I've had aggressive GoodYear dealers try to quote me prices on Titan's after I've told them my opinion on said tires. Not only did they have crap, they had much more expensive crap... but Coast would be the first place I'd try if you want a set of them. NewHolland, and probably CaseIH dealers may still carry Titan as well. NH used to through their direct ship program.
Around here the value tires are generally Galaxy/Primex. They're cheaper than Firestone and hold up quite well, but the wear often isn't in them that a Firestone would have, or it hasn't been around here with the few sets we've had.
I was never really disapointed with them because dollar for dollar they were quite similar on wear.... they just didn't last as long.
I'd go for a chinese tire over a Titan.

For a while now, Titan has been advertising on TV that they make all of Goodyear's ag tires. I don't know when that started though. Titan makes tractor tires right here in Des Moines.

Thanks for the input, I'm not shooting to put a Titan on there if they're even close to the cost of a Firestone. I just thought it might be an alternative to finding (or trying to) a used set which always seems to be a gamble at best. I have a set of Galaxy's on my Super A (which I bought not knowing what brand I was getting) and have actually been quite impressed with them as they seem to clean well and pull well. The tractor in question is a Super MD and I was/am intending to put a new set of good tires on it when I restored it which will be a couple of years down the road as it will require quite a lot spent on it. I should probably just get on with it and buy the Firestones, but I would have liked to get new tires, paint, and everything together. Funny what seems important sometimes? Sam

Titan bought GoodYear's farm tire division several years ago. AS far as I know, what was a GoodYear model tire is still a GoodYear model and branded as such.... and what was Titan is still Titan. I don't know that they've changed their process on the GoodYears. If they have, then they made a BadYear.
I don't care where they're made anymore. They're all so expensive you can't afford to buy anything that you're 90% certain is a dud right out of the box.
The Michelin's I buy come from Hungary. That doesn't particularly impress me, but the tires do... so I buy them if they're competitive on price with Firestone. Otherwise I buy Firestone.
We've had over 90% sidewall failures with Titan and Armstrong over the years and virtually no sidewall failures with anything else other than a pair of Generals that froze many years ago. I just don't see a reason to buy another Titan.
