I have an older friend who has High (blood test) Creatinine -- what can be taken or used to lower High Creatinine, if anything ?

Thats close to home on me.
Watch what he eats. Ask his doctor about not taking over the counter pills.

You sure got that Right --- it's like their shooting at a target in a dark room -- and hope they hit it !!!!

High creatine levels can be a symptom of a problem rather than being the problem. Some types of leukemia will alter blood protein levels.
A co-worker of mine has missed over a year of work with his

my view of doctors

Not to say you shouldn't ask us here but this is a very serious health problem that can only be assessed by a good doctor. Don't play around with it or he will surely die much younger than he should.

How elevated is it, any creatinine over 2.5 is serious. This could be caused by decreased pressure from the heart (pump) or from an obstruction down stream like the prostate. As we age we all tend to reach the outer edges of the bell shaped curve that tells us our test results are normal or abnormal and that is a fact of life but being way outside the normal range should wave red flags. To find a good doctor, ask a nurse that works in your community or some other health care worker. They will be able give you direction. Help your friend, you might have fun doing that.

It seems that YTMag is the go-to authority for just about anything: auto repair, carpentry, analytic geometry, quantum mechanics, coon dogs, RC Cola and now, of course, nephrology.

Your friend needs to find a good doctor and listen to him.

But since you asked, I think your buddy ought to lay off the meat and eat his veggies. But that's probably not the advice you expected.

Well, If their creatinine is high, then they are leaking protein in their urine. Most likely a sign of nephrotic syndrome. I guess I know a little about it as I had a kidney transplant in 1991.

Generaly caused by a strep infection.

To must be fun, where did friend get this info. If competent medical personnel, ask them for MORE information. All I know about kidneys is lots of distilled water, little protein like meat. But, man, this is serious business. Try Mayo clinic site.
