locked out of my office

My son has apparently locked both doors to the bathroom in my shop and I cannot find keys anywhere. Guess I gotta drill one out. Any advice on this.

Is it an interior/bathroom door with a little hole in the knob? Getchee about an eight D. nail; put it on the anvil and hammer it to slightly flatten about a half inch of the end of it; insert in hole and turn........

Boy you sure don't have a criminal mind here Ya have any real thin sheet steel or even a credit card . Just slide it between the door stop and the latch and pop the latch in . Door open.

I use a 3/16 drill rite in the slot, then rake the springs and tumblers out with a small piece of bent wire and it should open. With a smaller drill bit you will have a hard time getting the pieces out. Good Luck

Do a google on "lock bumping" or something like that. I have heard about how easy it is to get a cheap lock to unlock by this process. I have never tried it but should learn it. The old credit card trick opens many doors if they don't fit the jamb too tightly.

If it were an emergency my hip and shoulder would open the door in a hurry. Hard on doors though......

Go on youtube and there is lots of lockpicking videos. I've watched a few of them before, and its amazing how useless something like a Masterlock padlock would be to a pro. I think there is videos for just about any type of lock.

If all else fails and you don't care about the lockset just grab onto it with a big pair of channel locks and give it a twist like you are openiing it. You will have the door open in less than 5 seconds but you will ruin the lockset in the process.

That is assuming the door framing is wood and you can pry the door stop away. I have had success using the back side of a hacksaw blade pushed against the movable bolt, where it is ramped. Generally just applying some pressure with the blade and jiggling the door will cause the bolt to retract into the lockset and the door to open.

Then I would replace that lockset with a regular bath or bedroom lockset that can be opened with a small screwdriver, if it is ever necessary again.

Bath room locks are supposed to have a pin release in the exterior knob, small hole in the knob center.A wire will spring the lock.If you are gonna get locked in, the bathroom is the best place.

Tell yer wife ya got something ya don't want her to see, go away for an hour--come back and she'll have it open!
I think wives have a method where they wave their hands at it, and the lock opens--works that way here!
