Hydraulic Cylinders

So I had a leaking cylinder on my David Brown LS7 loader, too both to a rebuild shop. They both need machining and such to the tune of $826 each...which is not going to happen, so I'm in the market for new cylinders. The old ones seem to be a 3.5 inch bore or so, about 27 inch stroke. I could get away with something else, but the problem is that I don't like how the new cylinders mount as compared to the old mounts, is that something that can be changed? Also, is Northern tool a good place to go for them or should I source locally?

These people have been good to deal with for hydraulics.

I agree, what needs machining? Is this shop just trying to rip you off? If the outer tubes are OK, you could even have just a new shaft/piston made if needed. Shouldn't cost anywhere near $800 a piece. Usually all you need is new seals. Dave

I'm going to go visit them today and pick up my cylinders. I'll find out what needs machined. Maybe I'll take them somewhere else for a second opinion. Seems to me like the tubes might need machined, but I'll let you know.

turns out the shafts need turned and rechromed. These sat is a junkyard for several years before I put the loader on my tractor. I think I could rebuild them, but it might just tear up the new seals in a few months.
