When converting a 6 volt to 12 volt with alternator , is it best to paint the alternator black or leave it the color of silver? Thanks Amo

I don't think it matters, one whit!

(WHIT, n. The least bit; an iota: doesn't give a whit what was said; not a whit afraid.)

How about painting a 12 volt GENERATOR the same color as the tractor and put that on instead?

FWIW, the alternators on lots of new tractors simply got painted along with the tractor, and it didn't seem to hurt anything. Don't think it HELPED anything, either!

because the generator had been painted black. thanks, i will leave it the color it came out of the box.

Very true but I also figure if it has a warranty like the ones I get that have lift time warranty's on them it might void that. But ya it would probably take a lot of paint in the wrong places to hurt one also

Alternator cases are aluminum. If you don't properly prepare and prime the case, paint isn't going to stick well. It hardly seems worth the aggravation.
