Cletrac GG General production

Anybody got a good idea how many Cletrac General tractors were built? This is the little three wheeled tractor that looks like a HG or OC-3 crawler. Thanks.

There was a good article about them in the last Oliver Heritage Magazine. It told how LONG they were built, but not how many. Production started in 1939 and went til they were sold to Avery in February 1942. I think the problem with production numbers was that while they were built by Cletrac, they were sold and distributed by different companies under different names, The same tractors were sold as Cletrac General,Avery,Montgomery Wards,Farm Bureau and sold in Canada by Massey Harris. Of course after the sale in 42,they were strictly Avery and designated as the Model A and weren't the General anymore.

I have one of the Wards versions ("Twin Row") of this little tractor. I've collected all the liturature I can find on it, and have a copy of Belt Pulley Magazine that might have the info you need. I'lll look it up tonight and see.

The Twin Row was Avery built though. Wasn't a Cletrac General. The Avery A was the same as a General,a continuation of the General after Avery bought them out from Cletrac. The true General was built by the Cleveland Tractor Company, not Avery.

I found this site (http://www.external_link/farm-tractors/005/8/0/5808-cletrac-gg.html) that says that 7,527 Cletrac General GG tractors were built. This is the only source I have found giving a production number.

I have a restored 1941 General GG and an unrestored one with a serial number (8FA632) that doesn't fit any of the serial number sources I have found on the internet. It was an early one my father bought new; he always said in 1936 which doesn't fit with the generally quoted 1939 - 1942 production dates either.

I can't get to mine right now, but I am positive it says "Montgomery Ward Twin Row manufactured by the Cleveland Tractor Company" on the tag.

You're right,I'm sorry. I was thinking the twin row was something else. The General was sold as a Montgomery Wards Twin Row and even had their own unique serial tag. My mistake. Might make it even harder to find real production numbers.
