Oliver 1750 540 rpm vs other makes

I am wondering if oliver have a slower than 540 rpm (actual) than what it should be? Reason I am asking is 540 pto rpm ojn my 1750 tach is pretty much wide open. My 544D IH has 540 rpm at a little over 3/4 throttle. Since Iam having issues with the big blower on my oliver and it not throwing the snow like I thinkit should, I am wondering if the oliver 540 pto just is not spinning as fast as my IH 544D. I doesnt really appear to be. Any thoughts?

One of their selling points was that you had full engine power at rated speed on the PTO. Does your PTO clutch slip? How much snap does it take on the handle? If you have a right hand handle I have seen the pivot pin get almost rusted fast which gives you a false reading on the snap. Unhook the pin and see how hard the handle moves to check it out.

Should be a mark on the tach where engine RPM needs to be to achieve 540 RPM at the PTO. If there is no question on this on the 1750 versus the 544 then your PTO clutch on the 1750 needs to be serviced.
Do both tachs function properly?
Be advised, Not all makes of tractors develope 540 RPM PTO at exactly the same engine RPM.

1800 rpm is 540 on my ford 4610, but its 2450 or so on my ford 1720. All tractors are most likely different. I dont know were 540 is on the farmall H since there is no tach.

Sounds like you need a 2-135 White Dave. The 540 runs at 1700 engine rpms. 1000 runs at 2200 engine rpms. On things like the slinger manure spreader with a 540 PTO,or that snowthrower, you can crank it up to 18-1850 and gain some speed. My 1850 won't even run all the way up to full PTO speed. I put a combine motor in it and the pump is set to max out at a slower rpm and I never turned it up.

Hi, John. Just wanted to tell you I mailed 2 cd's of pictures to you this morning, should be there in 3 or 4 days. Let me know if they are any good. Chris

Dave, your 1750 is rated at 2400rpm and your pto speed could be taken from 2000 to 2400rpm as none of my books show the engine rpm at pto speed. On a blower you need that tractor running 2400 anyway. Now as far as that blower,IF it is a Lorenz, the first couple years they were only good for BOAT anchors.Looking at the new specs.,they don't use the same fan that they did.Look for a model no.and measure the fan size and post back. They are in Benson Mn.at 1-888-843-3210

yes they are geared down and they will really pull on a shaft, doesn't matter on a grinder or blower but isn't much good on a baler or sprayer, you have to run the engine fast, I hate it, Case had alot better pto speed

Got a Badger silo blower long time ago an put Case830 on first load at full throttle an could not blow first wheel barrow of haylage in 60ft silo.Tried again an same thing. Put dc case on an blew many loads in there after . Dont know what pto speed was but was much faster than830 even though at fulll throttle 830 indicated over 540..
