fender radios

Is anyone knowledgeable about tractor fender radios? I'm talking about the ones from the 60s. Who made most of them? Motorola? Seems I often saw red ones (even on green tractors) and sometimes other colors besides plain black. What brands would those colorful ones have been? Were particular brands particular colors? Or did they all come in different colors? I'm especially interested in red radios. Does anyone restore/collect/sell these? Anyone have nice originals?

I've got a couple of the big orange ones. Square jobs with a lid that flips up or down and latches. One is AM/FM,the other just AM. Without going out to look,I think they're both Motorola. Both 6 or 12 volt, both positive of negative ground. Then I've got 2 of the smaller round backed black vinyl covered ones from TSC. Don't remember what brand those are. The first one I had back in the mid 60s was from TSC. AM only. Looked a lot like these orange ones, but had a white case.

Most all of the box fender mount radios from the 60's I ever saw were Automatic Radios. I think the first ones were all red and then they added different colors later. Still have 2 or 3 that don't work, wonder if anyone fixes them? I know most parts are probably obsolete, wonder if they could be updated? Chris

My brother in law mounted a Chevy radio in one of those old cases for me once. He had to cut the back out and make a tin cover to go over the large part of it that stuck out. Worked, just looked like crap.

Could you repeat the question? I could not hear you over my fender radio LOL! Sorry, I could not resist! Greg

Never liked a radio on the fender as vibration always breaks out the top of the fender .and like ya said ya go deaf in one ear. When i had a radio on my one tractor it was mounted on the steering column and since the tractor had a straight pipe ya had to turn the volume up almost all the way to hear it But the people in the next township could hear it plan as day .

B&D , I had a fender-mount radio for years on my Ford 5200. Never used the speaker, but had earphones wired up instead. Best thing I ever did as it cut the exhaust noise nearly in half. If a tooth in a cultivator broke (as example) I caught it before it cleared the implement while wearing those earphones, it cut down that much noise and I still enjoyed the music.

Weird. When I click my profile it shows my address. When I click yours all I get is PM (which is "under construction"). There is no email option. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. Try me at [email protected]
