I talked to one of the people from conservation today about food plot seed and when talking found out that they are not changing the permit law this year after all. So if you own land 5 acres and up you can still get a free permit to hunt deer on your land or at least you can for 2009 never know what they will do next year

Have a very steep big back yard. I did a lot of work on it in November. It had washed and had cactus and brush on it. After I cleaned it up and leveled out the washes, I planted it in annual rye grass and about 3 weeks ago the rye was 8 or 10 inches high. I told my wife that I was going to have to mow it. I went out the next morning and it was level, grass about an inch high. I looked up on the side of the hill and 3 deer were staring at me. They have kept it mowed to the ground ever since.

One of the Conservation commissioners is a friend of mine. He was catching so much crap over this and so were the others. They backed down. He originally told me the change was long overdue and I agree with him that the system is probably abused. Anyway, I would guess we will see changes down the road, just maybe more gradual.

I could see going up to 20 or 30 acres but going to 80 seemed a bit to much. I figure if you have 20 or so you have an impact on the deer but much less and you can't do much other then plant a food plot or 2. But ya they got phones out the ying/yang over it

Well I don't need no Hunting license or any land to get my deer. Just need my drivers license! Got one last year going down 5 hwy.
Now the way I figured it. That deer cost me about $3000.00. Totaled my car out!
I was trying to figure out the cost per pound but pen run out of ink for I could. lol lol

Iowa DNR brain trust are increaseing the in state hunting license fee. Now proven fact starting in the 60's each increase in fees had a drop in number sold. Deer drives in SE Iowa will have up to 100 run pass the shooters. Now cost 27 bucks for first tag and reduced cost for next. The big thing the deer season is openned so late the cold has a great effect on number taken. Road kills are out rages due to the high numbers of deer. Have put up deer fense on 34 in jefferson county.
