340 snowmobile

Just picked up a 340 TNT. Needs track work, anybody have one and are they a decent sled? fresh 13 inches of snow and waiting for the temps to warm up to go out for a ride.

I have 2 78 Skidoo Olympiques, one electric start, one pull start. Mine are fan cooled. I think the TNT is a Free Air design. I put up a website back in 01 about learning about them. I do not have an extra track, but you can still get them from Dennis Kirk.

Haven't ridden them in several years...

Might be taking offers, however.

My Skidoo site,

The term "decent sled" is a relative term.............

In comparison to a set of snow shoes it'd be the "cats meow" BUT in comparison to an '09 MXZ TNT it'd seem pale in comparison................

Also, you'd better wait for that 13" of snow to set up or you'll be diggin' ;)

Yup,you can still get tracks for em.Some of the newer machines still take the same track with even better tread design. The 340 twin fan cooled wasis a nice little engine.I had a 640 and a 775 with tuned pipes yrs ago, real screamers back then. Can still get most any parts you need through Dennis Kirk. 340 TNT's are fan cooled. In 1975, they moved the engine forward under the hood. Prior to that, they had the engine right in front of the seat. The old ones didn't steer or handle very good but were faster than the newer ones. We used to have a 1975 and the neighbor had an earlier one. The older one seemed like it was twice as hard to pull over to start. Make sure the chain case has oil up to the level plug. Dave

I has several Skidoo snowmobles , which included a TNT 340 free-air. Not a bad sled if you keep the snow and water out of the intake, it will crack the piston. It wasn't hard to change pistons because it was a free-air and there wasn't much in the way.

I picked it up last night. The track needs new bearings. Im missing a piece of the wiring harness. Supposed to have a battery, but looks like a harness is mising that has a wide, 8 or 9 wire plug, and I belive the battery hooks to it to supply power. Thought of hot wiring it till I go to the shop to get parts. The body is in good shape, engine looks pretty clean, it looks like they broke a spring and tried to take the track apart, they snapped the bolts that hold it to the frame. Easy fix, but found bearings out up in the front shaft where it drives the track. Sure it needs work, but for 50 bucks, I though the engine was worth that. If I cant fix it, Ill turn it into a generator!!!
