Puill start automatics ???

Just a thought ,, Couple guys debating last nite in shop whether Automatic transmission can be pull started at 40 mph.. The old chevy Power Glide and Torque flite Chryslers could be ,, Can the more Modern Trans Be pull started , ........

You can try, it makes the trans repair shop people very, very happy.
Just repair the starter, use proper cables, the highest CCA battery and a block heater.

Auto transmissions haven't had rear pumps driven from the output shaft for decades.

Kinda got a not INTENDED double post goin Here, Its So cold that the YT forum And My computor Double Post !!! , Thanx For all responses ,, Technically If it is a rear pump tranny it can be done .. Froggy Argues that a tranny engine spinning with starter in drive ,Can also be started ,, MAYBE , But maybe will blow out the torque convertor ?????

Do not. No commonly found trans in a car has any way to build clutch pressure. Thus they will not be lubricated, nor coupled to the engine when pulled. As stated below it is a blessing for trans professionals. JimN

Those old trannys had a rear pump and so you could pull/push start them using the rear wheels and drive line to turn the pump. Not so with the newer ones.

The rear pumps were eliminated in the 60's. When rear pumps went away so did pull/push starting. Some transmissions can be towed with no adverse effects. GM vehicles with the 4T45 transaxle can be towed with the wheels on the ground unlimited according to GM. Just depends on the transmission.

my dad did it with a 66 ford galaxy. i pulled him with pick-up he didnt say he was going to do it nearly jerked me off road. was years ago had almost forgotten about it
