Brrrrrrrrr!

I had -28 30 minutes ago when I drove the drive to see if it had drifted back in overnight. Cold enough to hurt to breath. Came in and called the buses and told them the kids are staying home today. Guess I'll give the calves a little extra grain this am. The cows have pretty much developed a "continuous flow" mentalily when it comes to eating hay, they also finally decided to spend the night IN thier shelter. They all fit, packed like sardines and looking as irritated as 5 adults in Geo Metro.

Dave, about the same down here, -22. We had 5 in. of fluffy snow that drifted like crazy during the night. I do the contract snow plowing for the township and need to get out there. When it is this cold, I say a little prayer before leaving the yard. My wife stays home to do the cattle and hog chores, so it is tough on everyone and everything.

Good call to keep the kids at home.

Stay safe.

Here in SE Iowa we had 4" of powder on the 4" from Saturday.

Wind did not blow as bad as predicted.

Drifts don't look to bad from the window.

We went down to -6 here.

well it was soooo coooold here I had to keep the door open on the microwave just to keep the house warm, well actually it is -22 degrees the wind isnt blowing as bad as last night not real bad out ,once again Im from northwest wisconsin

-32 in Aitkin MN when I got to work at 7:20 this morning. School's on. Business as usual.

In the Mississippi river vally of Western
Wiscon, about 10 miles North of where interstate
90 crosses into Minnesota, or about 40 miles
north of the Iowa, Minnesota border.
-20 below zero at 8 AM, with windchill of -40.
5 inches of snow at 8 PM when I cleared the
175 foot driveway so I wouldn"t have to do it
this morning.

The local radio station just reported -30 & wind chill at -45. I was outside but I didn't think it felt that bad. Shop stove still had coals in it from last night so the shop was not too cold. Most schools are starting 2 hours late.

we are having a nice day today manitoba canada -22 with a windchill of -31 since the dec 10 its been 10degrees colder than that everyday. cattle have eat a lot of feed this past month. my JD 4520 with block heater and a inside oilpan heater has never been inside a shed this winter that is what you call winterized.

Greygoat, are you located near Holmen? I live just South of La Crosse, but I am temporarily located away from the cold at Fort Meade, FL. I am camping on site for the Florida Flywheelers tractor show and swap meet. There is no snow to shovel but it is going to get cool overnight this week.

I know what you mean , here between roseau and warroad, we had -38 below at 7:00am and now at 9:00 am it is -36 below. I think I am glad that I dont have to work today, I am on my 5 day break, Have to go back tommorow though. It was cold when I put the little ones on the bus.

The brunt of us hasn't quite hit us here in Michigan yet. It was actually 10 degrees warmer this morning than it was yesterday morning. There was no wind yesterday though. Snow's blowing like a sand blaster today. Temp's already starting to drop. Lake Michigan keeps us a little warmer when the wind comes across the warmer water. Picks up moisture and socks us in with snow though. They claim some areas could see as much as 2 feet over the next 3-4 days.

This is so much like the winters I remember in St. Cloud in the 60's and early 70's. 25 below here in St. Cloud this morning, but now at 11 Am it's warmed up to -17.

-20 right now. The fastest I have ever fed the cows. Went out to the chicken coop. Fed them, looked for some eggs.
I said hey.... Wheres the eggs?
They just looked at me bobbin thier heads.. like yea right..we will get right on that....

I feel real bad, don,t see how you guys make it.
Northwest Tn. 31 this morning supposed to be droping for next two days. The cold you guys have is going to drift down south. Predicting a low of 8 deg Wed night. That,s cold for this part of the country. I,m ready for spring and i bet the mid west is too.Funny thing we live on a large duck refuge and we are not seeing the geese or ducks we usualy see. I just wonder if this cold spell will send more in. Jerry

Yea when the wind is not blowing ita actually kind of nice. I call it crunchy cold. When your walking you hear crunch crunch.

I will still never forget the guy who came up from Florida to pick up a baler couple years back. It was in Feb and it was -40 not counting the wind. We had to load the baler on his flat bed trailer. took a couple hours to get it done.
I have never seen a guy sooooo cold. He was so puffed up with clothing you couldnt see him at all.
He was wearing big fluffy mittens on his hands and his hands were so cold they felt like they were on fire.
My hands never get cold. I wear brown cotton gloves no matter the temp.
I was working the come along wile he was snuggled up to the torpedo heater in the shed.
He looks over and says. How in the heck can you live here? I have never felt any thing like this in my life. And I am never coming back.
I just chuckled.
I cant imagine living in Georga or any were in the south durring the summer. SO I guess its the same only different.

Hang in there till Thursday, Randy - Weatherman says that's when it'll get the worse. I came in from doing outside chores today, and had to change to dry clothes, I was sweating so much. Couple hours later, my feet are still cold. When you bundle up and then do summer work chores, you're going to sweat. That makes it all the worse!

(quoted from post at 15:30:17 01/13/09) and where is that guy talking about global warming??? I would like to have a chat with him this am!!!
Hey, they (Al Gore & company) have already thunk up an answer to that. They claim that GW induces EXTREME weather conditions, i.e. colder winters. They'll use these cold temps as PROOF of their theory. LOL.

How in the world anyone can take a few years of mankind's miniscule impact on the atmosphere and extrapolate it to Global Warming is beyond me. Junk science, that's all that is. Heck, as noted elsewhere, one volcanic eruption dumps more crap in the air than all of mankind's emissions.

South Central Michigan, we got about 3" more last night, temp at 16F. Not too bad, except the wading around in 14" of snow to cut firewood. Got a load cut this morning for my elderly neighbors. Maybe cut one more tomorrow for myself, right now it feels pretty good inside. Nothing like a good old cold winter to make you appreciate summer.
Paul

I don't know how you stand that kind of weather but I guess it's all about what you get use to. One of our problems down here in central texas is we don't have time to get use to the weather. One day last week the high was 86, the next morning it was 16. We kind of get use to not being use to any thing.

What in the World Do ALL You Guys Heat with (TYPE) That is,thems some Horrffic Temperatures for sure! I'm Here in N. Ga have a Goodn' Larry KLKU

Not near as cold here. It's supposed to be -18 C (-4 F) with wind chill tomorrow morning. I'll be outside all day to make things even better. Thursday is supposed to be -25 C w/ wind chill and I heard that it's supposed to be as cold as -45 in some areas on Friday.

yep sure was cold this afternoon! didn"t let the cows out of the barn today and had to make dang fast work of cleaning up the manure spreader! supposed to get worse too i guess! i plug the tractor and skid steer in in the morning when i milk and they still start hard!
