Oliver 550 power steering

Ok...this is gonna sound off the wall...but it's not meant to.
Decided a few weeks ago to get dad's old 550 out and run it for awhile. Neat little tractor. Had it sold when dad passed away...but the guy backed out...glad he did.
Anyway...it was running just fine and the steering went south. I mean gone. The wheel goes round and round.
Called a guy who works in a shop and he said the balls are gone.
Is there a kit for this? Do they just wear out?
Anyone ever heard of this?

I hate it when they lose their balls.

What happens is, rain water runs down the steering column into the steering box- accumulates in the bottom, eventually rusting the bearing. When bearing disintigrates, the big duvisary with the recirculating balls in it gets enough slack that the balls fall out. They're not gone, just laying (uselessly) in the bottom of the steering box.

You have to remove the steering column and rebuild the box. Probably won't need anything other than the bearing at the bottom (balls may be a little rusty, but will clean up fine). I don't have the bearing number for the bottom bearing- hopefully someone on here does.

Guess I better look thru that pile of manuals in the shop and see if I can find what your talking about.
Don't sound like fun...but nothing else to do this time of year....
Thanks.
