Gas in Diesel

I've heard for years of mixing a small amt.of gas with diesel when the temp. gets very cold .Do any of you know what proportion gas to diesel you use and not damage the engine?

Zero gasoline is the only 'safe' amount, in my humble opinion. Kerosene or Jet Fuel added to diesel is much better.
How cold do you expect it to be? 'Winterized' Diesel should be safe down to -30F at least, maybe lower than that.
On the other hand, #2 diesel might start to jell at zero to -5.

I've always mixed it 20:1 and have gotten along just fine.

Also, have never understood what all the hubbub was about because of which end of the hose it was mixed on. :>(

I agree that's what we always did to our outside fuel oil tanks.

I worked at the JD dealer one time they had fits trying to figure out why a model 650 quit when hot . Turns out the diesel had some gas in it.

A poor quality #2 diesel will sometimes gel at 32 deg. We blend 60/40 #2to#1 cant miss also use isopropel to get rid of water.Water/ice will cause fuel to gel.

10% usually safe, 20% for real cold. Problem comes when the injector pumps use the fuel for lubrication like the GM distributive car diesels- pumps have high wear and fail. The individual pump piston for each cylinder based on Mercedes/Bosch pattern uses engine oil for lube, no wear problems, Injector design was used for both gas or diesel. Watch out on Roosamaster pumps like IHC- I think the manuals said 10% gas mix only. Lot of truckers still putting some unleaded regular in fuel tank when coming to Wisconsin from southern states- depends on if newest diesel design with picky injector computers. RN
