thinking about taking an online small engine course has anyone done this, any ideas or suggestions, thanks in advance

Can't hurt anything. What is the cost to you,and what are you going to do with your new knowledge.Where can I find this course, would like to check it out.Good Luck

I think practicle experience would be far better than an online course. Probably not as bad as taking an online welding course but I wouldn't pay for such a course. See if the local technical school offers a course. Then you'd at least have a real engine in front of you. Dave

For that money, you can sign up for the foley/belsaw kit and have stuff hands on. Don't know how good it is, but it's gotta be better than online.

I'd recommend checking your local college/tech school. Years ago when I went to tech school for automotive, the first course was using basic hand tools and repairing small engines. The idea was if you couldn't learn to fix a lawnmower, you were in the wrong course. That first part of my schooling got me one of the jobs I liked most. What I thought was going to be a "get me by til I find something better" turned into 4 years mostly because the boss was the most honest man I've worked for. If it weren't for the slow winter months, I'd probably still be there. (20+ years)

I guess what I meant to say was having actual engines to work on, and having a live person who knows the material there to ask questions and give hands on instruction is well worth it even if the cost were higher.

Check local, I took one at local tech school about 15 years ago for $30 I think. Teacher was local mechanic with own shop and gave us 15% discount on parts we needed to fix the small engines that we brought to class. Jim

Send some money on mfg service manuals then work for a shop during spring rush.Hands on experience will be better than any online course.

I teach this course to high school kids. I personally would have no problem if a guy or two wanted to sit in on the class. If nothing else it would show the kids that maybe this content really is worth learning.
