rear end lube question for MF 50

I just filled the gear box of my tractor half full with 80/90 weight gear oil as the MF dealer advised me to. I have since read that it takes mineral oil. Should I get the gear lube out of it or will it hurt it?

It should have 80/90 MINERAL oil. regular gear oil has additives that'll do damage to certain parts in the pump. Not immediately, but eventually you'll regret not changing.

Should take just shy of 8 gallons to fill.

90 wt mineral oil is available from NAPA

65-205 for 5 gallon bucket
65-201 for 1 gallon jug.

Many people also use 15W40 motor oil.

I've had a couple massy 50 tractors since dad bought them new. They have always had hydraulic type oil in the tranny and rear end (it's the same housing).90W would be to heavy to pump in the winter.

OK... I decided it was best to look it up before quoting specifics. OEM recommendation is 80/90Wt GL-1 rated mineral oil. (Available @ NAPA, Part # 65-205)

Hy-Tran ISN'T good for the pump. (foams a LOT from what I hear)

SOme people have had good success with 15-40 motor oil.

I've got dads '56 Ferguson F40 that never had anything but 80/90 wt mineral oil fron new. Hydraulics are in pristine condition. Can't argue with success.

a case of a parts man that don't know shi+ or just don't care should have M1103 mineral oil witch is GL-1 do not use GL-4 or 5
