OT Travel plans to the south.....

Fellas, I am going from Michigan to Lousiana for 2 weeks to help a guy bring his folks effects back. Sounds like we will be travelling down 69 to mid Indiana then 55 to Memphis then south. Anyone know of anything that I would want to see along the way. I have did the typical searches but only found a few things. Got to be some locals out there willing to brag on their home town.

Be careful going thru Memphis.......stay on the main roads; one of the top 3 most violent/crime-ridden cities in the States.

I drove between those states once a year for ten years visiting my folks.

You can stop at Grace Land and say HI to Elvis in Memphis.
There are some good caves in KY.
"My Old Kentucky Home" is in Louisville I think.
The "Racetrack" is something to look at and those Thoroughbred farms also.

You can always buy Fireworks in Tenn. The kind you can't get in Michigan.

If ya happen to hit the memphis area about the time for a meal take a small detour and hit Tunica,Ms. and go to the Blue and White Restaurant. It's a small place that has been in business since 1937 I think and the food and people are great!
There is the National Ornamental Iron Museum in Memphis along with Graceland, and Beale street if you like light life.

Up around Sikeston Mo. when your on 55 you will be about 3 miles from Lambert's, home of thrown rolls. Again good food and good people. If you like tractor salvage yards there are 3 real good ones on the same exit there just the opposite direction.

What part of Louisana you traveling to? I am a native and current resident. I know the route to Memphis well. I will be glad to help you out with an effective route.

Grace Land, everyone should see it. Tour the Jungle Room. Walk through Elvis' jet airplanes, see the car/motorcycle collection, buy the sunglasses. It has its own post office so you can mail postcards to all your friends . Time and money well spent! I don't remember any tractors though, but he must have had some.

I agree with thurlow, some parts of Memphis you cant travel without an AK-47 for backup. Generally around West Memphis.

The B-17 Memphis Belle was at Mudd island right on the river, but I know the Air Force reclaimed it and I think it may have been moved to Wright Patterson, not sure on that.

If you are interested in history on the War of Northern aggression, then there are lots of sites from this era. I like the National cemetary at Vicksburg,MS., but that would be a little side trip, have to look at the map.

I-69 doesn't connect to I-55. Are you planning to hit I-70 at Indianapolis and then go west to I-55 in Illinois?

Thank you to all. I will take all into concideration. We will be leaving the 11 and get back to mi on the 25th. We will be going 69 to 70 then 55 south about as far as it goes to ponchachula,la. Plan on overnighting in memphis and then on the way back we are going to go through al. and near chattanuga(sp). Will miss the forum while Im gone as I check in every day even though I dont post. You all take care.
