i have way to many cats running around the place. fhey get in the barn and other sheds walk on tractors leaving tracks, nocking things of the shelves and generalmaking a mess. i am not a good shot any more besides do not want a shot up cat dragging home. what is something i can put in a live trap so i can have a stationary target. wife is complaning about tracks on her car. fed up. thanks

Mix fly bait(available at farm stores) with Coke. Put it out in a pie tin. It will kill anything that eats it. Works well with coons. Never tried it on cats, but I bet it would work on them too.

Caught my neighbors house cat in a live trap I set for a groundhog. Bait was dog food, got down to about 25F that night. He was one P---d off cat when I let him out in the morning, but haven't seen him around here since.

A semi auto .22 works for me. I'm a lousy shot too so being able to squeeze a few off gets them most of the time. Fresh cheap antifreeze that doesn't have bitter-gard added to it works on pests too.

Nope, sorry Mike , Cats won't touch it. I put it right in the aisle in the barn, coons are 10 to 15 feet from the pan, dead..the cats are waiting for their canned cat food, they will not lap anything sweet and the coke, pepsi or even cream soda is too sweet for their liking. That's what I like about the flybait mixtute, it gets coons possums skunks ..but not cats so I can control the pests in the barn and not kill my cats. I have no rats, very lucky mice and no coons possums or skunks..at least if they come to visit they will still be there in the morning

30 gal garbage can ..bricks on the bottom,,,good trap...sardines/fish oil ...bait trap every day SET trap every 3rd day,,,couple months no cats,,,not their fault that ownwners aren't resaponsible people ...

same problem here, but i wouldn't be asking how to get rid of them the humane society will be knocking on your door, then you have big problems, but not with the cats

Make sure it's cat food in a tuna fish size can. We had a cat (the one that you never got mad at because he was always good) that died after he tried to clean out a 6" can and suffocated.

Funny you should ask that as I just got back from the barn baiting the live trap. Took some of our house cats "Tuna Entree" about a spoonfull, then a good handful of Pete dogs Purina dog food. Generally though, the dog food makes a good all purpose bait, works on possums, coons, cats and rats.

Yup. We've gotten dozens of coons, a few possums and a skunk with the flybait too. We use it in the sweet corn patch to try and save our corn. Cats don't touch the stuff.

I have a similar problem, but with dogs. Not strays, but local dogs that run free. Louisiana has a state leash law. I have talked to the owners for years, and the Sheriff's department will not catch them outside city limits unless they bite someone (or someone's kid). They crap on my porch, in my yard, by my truck door, pee on my tires, come around at 2 am and make my dogs (behind a 6 ft wooden fence) bark their heads off.

I am fed up! I have narrowed it down to two options. Timik (spelling? granualr cotton pesticide) in some meatballs or chicken works good and they usually die within 20 ft of the bait. The other is I have 2 boxes of sub-sonic .22 ammo. I do not want various dead wildlife around the house so I am starting with the .22's.

Am I wrong for shooting peoples pets? Yes, but I value mine and my wife's sleep. I am begining to hate my job of 3 1/2 years because I wake at 4 am and work 12 hr shifts. If I take care of the root problem of my sleep deprevation, maybe I can enjoy work again with a full 8 hrs of uninterupted sleep.

Cars can be washed and shooting cats and dogs can get you a felony conviction and loss of firearms use for life.I have a Border Collie pup that wont run free because of the traffic on my road.He may get loose in his life time.Dogs slip collars and chains do wear and break. If some one shot my dog the shooter would be at risk.We have a leash law here and I see dogs loose from time ,they are no bother.I did animal control and picked up strays, kept and fed them. Most had no ID tags so they went to the animal shelter.A lot of dogs do get lost. You cant shoot a dog because he pees on your flowers or craps on your lawn.
