Select-o-speed transmission

I have a model 671 selectospeed (1959) that is developing transmission problems. I am starting to lose every other gear. I have lost about three gears so far.

Should the transmission be converted to a standard (est. cost?) or the transmission repaired (est. cost?)?

Why not step on down to the FORD board and post this and let the SOS guru's tell yuo what you need to do.

If you have not been maintaining the machine it will get finicky.. they like clean correct oil.. new filters.. and periodic adjustments.

you will need the manual supplement that matches your type of SOS trans.

Until you do pressure checks, adjust bands, and generally troubleshoot transmission, it is hard to decide what to do.

Perform routine maintenance the see what you have. May be a real simple fix.

It would be better to ask this question on the Ford section of this site so all the SOS guys can see it.

You will need a manual for your SOS to follow along and they will what to know what gears you are losing.

I used to own one, every other gear tells me that you need to adjust the bands. Look up which bands affect which gears. All you need 1 large screwdriver and torque wrench. There 2 or 3 deep slotted studs on outside of tractor. Back then, having no torque wrench, I used 5 lbs bags of sugar on wrench to determime correct torque. I would try that first before tranny replacement
