OT Burning pictures to CD

I have been trying to get pictures off of my computer onto a CD so I can take them and have some prints made. My daughter showed me how to burn them onto a CD, but when I go to Walgreens and put CD into their machine, it says that it doesn't have any pictures on it. When burning CD, a box comes up and tells how long it will take to burn, and when it is full. What am I doing wrong?? Walgreens says to send them the pictures online, but when I try to, it takes forever, even with satelite hook up. Sometimes it disconnects for lack of activity when trying to send pictures to them. Help!!!!! Chris

Does your camera have a removable card? My wife takes the card to Walgreens and prints pictures from it. The machine there takes several different types.

Chris, try using a flash driver. I prefer them over the CD any time. Some people refer to them as a "stick". A 4gb flash drive is about $20.00 and will hold about 6 to 8 thousand pictures. They are smaller and I think they preserve the pictures better.

In burning software you may have an option of " closing CD"

The burning software Needs to "close" or "Finalize" the cd so it can be read on other computers .
If this is the case and your burning software doesn"t Finalize the cd in this manner only your PC will be able to read the cd

Notes from my kid that I keep by the computer-
go to cd drive in explorer with no disk in drive
drop files into cd folder
when done put blank cd into drive
click file, write files to cd
hope it works for you
good luck! joe-

Caution... Flash/thumb drives are not recommended for long-term storage. They can and do lose stuff. They"re fine for copying stuff back and forth, but I would not depend on them for long-term storage.

Can you see the JPEG files on your CD when you put it into your CD drive? The files will have the extension ".JPG".

Note that if they don't have the "JPG" extension, the Walgreens machine probably won't recognize them. (e.g. if they have "JPEG" or "jpeg" as the extension). And the machine won't be able to handle them if they're in any format other than JPEG, for example if they've been converted to GIF format.

At SAM'S club for 75$ there is a external Hard disk that has 500GB of file space. It is pretty much plug and play into a USB port. The unit will do timed backups of everything on your HDD, or just the Documents section, or however you set it up. very menu driven.
Then use a Flash USB to transfer the files.
I also believe your CD issue is (as indicated below) the fact that the CD was not "closed" using Nero or Most other CD burners, it is necessary to tell the computer to close the disk. Or set it so it will. Good luck, JimN

My wife does this with pictures she wants stored on a CD. We have all our pictures on "My Pictures" and when you click on My Pictures and under "Picture Tasks" you will see "Copy all items to CD" and when you click on that, you will see Confirm File Replace. Try it. Hal

I think the guys are right about closing the CD.
I found out long ago that CD’s don’t hold many pics, especially after I got a better, more detailed camera. My $20 memory stick, aka thumb drive, aka usb flash, will hold more pics than about 50 CD’s will hold and it is much much faster to load them onto it. Yes it should not be relied upon for storage but works great to transfer them and to easily take with you to load on other computers and show them to folks. I us my stick to transfer pics between my 2 computers so I always have a backup copy on each computer of every pic and I also take advantage of the free use of the Photobucket website to store and share my pics. I probably got about 300 pics of my tractors on there and there is no telling how many Powerstroke pics on there not to mention personal stuff like vacations and things.
If you don’t have a memory stick then I suggest getting one, they are very handy and reusable, you can get them almost anywhere. Don’t get one of those 128m or 256m, go for at least 2Gig, you won’t be sorry.

Here is a link to my photobucket site so you can check it out; http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/jj235/alabamafrog/
Look to the left under albulmns and check out all my tractor stuff.

If you are putting the CD into the Kodak kiosk it expects to find pictures in a Kodak directory. It has been along time since I had a Kodak camera but I got burned once on that technicality. Can't remember if the directory name has to be Kodak or EasyShare but it was one or the other.

You do not have to have a Kodak camera to make a Kodak CD. If the Kiosk at the store is a Kodak kiosk you can download the Kodak EashyShare software from kodak.com and use it to burn the pix to the CD regardless of the source of them - or you can see if the store has a Fuji or some other kiosk that might work.
