I have a 1998 dodge 1 ton 4x4 dually diesel that I really like but it rides terrible especially when I put and empty trailer on and the overload springs get close to touching. Then the slightest bump seems to slap and buck. I have looked for an air ride system and the only affordable ones seem to be for 3/4 ton without overloads.do I just do away with overload springs and do something like this? or can someone send me in a direction to find some answers? thanks all and happy new year Paul

Skip,

I put the Kelderman air bag front end on my 86 Dodge about 18 years ago. I needed to soften up the front, so I pulled out 3 spring leafs and then mounted up the air bags. Now I can have a better ride, or air up for some heavy load. Since I put in the air ride, I have not needed to go to the chiropractor, except on rare occasions, and the bags are still the original ones (Firestone, I think).

With your truck, you will probably take off the over load spring pack and put the Kelderman bags in their place. I did not go the extra cost of the onboard compressor, but just air up the bags at my shop if I am going out with a load. If I am coming back unloaded, using a normal tire gauge, I just let off some of the air pressure. For me, a decent ride means the bags are set at 25 psi, and the full load requires 45 psi. These are real truck duty bags, so that is low pressure for what they are capable of.

Best Wishes for a good new year.
