Has anyone out there studded their well worn tractor tires. I am considering drilling into the remaining v bars of my tractor tires and installing studs that you would normally find in car and pick up tires. I know the proper dept of the holes for the different length studs and have a few studs to experiment with. I also have a stud gun. I would like to hear from some one who tried this already. Thank you .

Yes,,,one time long ago i saw an old WD9 with a loader that a guy had drilled in studs into the bars as you say and had been installed for many years as far as i could tell,,,,Im shirr they were not anyware neer as good as chains but better than not at all and could still travel down the road without all the clatter,,,I have often thot about trying it myself but didn't know how to go about installing them and the neighbor who did thees is long gone.

I did it with a garden tractor tire once. Was a tractor tread tire, and it worked good for snow. Don't know if it woul help on a large tractor though. Would ake a lot of studs to do much good.

Snowmobile & ATV part shops carry a thread in tungsten "stud".
I would still go with chains instead unless your tractor sees mostly road duty.

After using tire chains in the past and not successfully keeping them on I switched to KOLD KUTTER ice racing screws I live in Michigan and so far so good.

I tried it on a dirt bike tire once for winter riding. The studs didn't last very long due to wheel spin; although they would really tear up a log if you spun the tire when crossing it. If you were pushing snow, I would bet the studs pull out fairly quickly.

on my feed mixer tractor I run about 30 short lag bolts in the tread on each tire. I do it every winter. makes pulling a 20000 lb feed mixer on ice alot easier.
