Couple of IH's that need help

We have two old IH's a 300U and a 350U both gasoline engines.

Problem with the 350U
Two years back an unnoticed tree stump knocked a hole in the oil pan, and now the rod/crank bearings are shot. Can you folks point me in the proper direction to find oversize crank/rod bearings and a gasket set for this motor?

Problem with the 300U
This old beast always has some problem... lately the hydrolic fluid has been coming up low, now she leaks a drip or two but not enough to displace this much fluid (loses maybe a gallon a week). The engine has also been blowing a LOT of oil out the overflow vent, but when we check the oil lever is always ok (usually showing a bit too full, but not milky as in water).... I am thinking some seal or gasket has gone and is allowing the hydrolic fluid to leak into the engine case... is this possible?

thanks for any help or advice.

check the online store on this site for bearings and gaskets, or have the machine shop that cuts the crank get the bearing. the overhaul gaskets sets are prolly around a hundred dollars or so. or give rusty farmall a shout here on this site, he has good sources for parts too. if you need an oil pan, call bates corporation on bourbon indiana, big i-h salvage yard. and regarding the hydraulic fluid problem, more than likely the seal on the front of the hyd pump is leaking, going into the crankcase and burning out the exhaust.

Glen is right on in his answer. I would first take the engine apart before you order any parts so you know what you will need. If your crank is to bad the machine shop might build it up then turn it back down the the size it was in the first place so take it to the machine shop before you get the parts

I was looking through the store just now, I am glad I found this web page I would have had a devil of a time tracking all these parts down on my own. I will bring the crank in to a machine shop in the next few weeks.

About the 300U and it's leaking hydraulic fluid. If it is the h-pump seal is that hard to get at to replace? Is there a write up on how to service the h-pump I can read anywhere? Photos would be nice... thanks for all your help!!

The search for box here has many descriptions and how too on the hydraulic pump seal. There are two types, so the best is to check what is already described. Pulling the crank requires the splitting of the tractor. Support the tractor under casting behind the engine with serious wooden blocking, remove the front sheetmetal and radiator, Then remove the front axle and front casting (very heavy and requires a floor crane or overhead lift) then remove the engine from the trans/clutch casting. You will need a book, there are hidden bolts, and things to remember that the book describes well. JimN

You need to have your auto machine shop to check those rods too. The bearings may have spun inside the rod and ruined the rod. Any auto machine shop can get the correct undersize bearings. Hal
PS: The block probably needs a good cleaning and all the oil passages cleaned.

oh hell, I already split the tractor, that 350 has been in pieces for about 6 years... I don't think I even know what rod caps go to what rods any more forget the bolts... hope the balancing is not so important in these engines as it is in motorcycle engines....

I am looking to finally get the crank turned and try to remember how it all goes together. By the way, is there any reason I should pop the head off while I am doing all of this?

I cannot attend to the 300 until the 350 is back up and running, soooo unless there is something critical to check in the head or with the pistons (no signs of bad compression before the tear down) then I will just throw it all back together with the top end as-is....
