O/T: Resources for Water Well Questions

Water wells seem to be a popular subject for questions on this board. I've learned quite a bit about my well from this board, but I still scratch my head about some stuff.

Are there any good resources on the web that cover all the ins and outs about how a well works? For example, the different types of wells, the differnt types and locations of pumps, the different kinds of pressure tanks, where pressure switches are located, etc?

Something with some good diagrams would be ideal. I tried googling, but didn't come up with much.

I will try to put some info on here in a day or so that might help. I was in the well and pump business for about twenty years. There are some good books on this subject that I will try to post. It will take a few days though. I'm retired but still quite busy with my many projects.

Understanding wells and pumping water is a life time occupation. Every well is different and the type and size of a pump & tank depends on several factors. I have been involved on wells for a houshold that produces 3 or 4 gallon a minute to irrigation wells that produce 1200 gallon per minute. It takes a lot of expertise to have a successful well instalation.

Gould has an informative catalog.
For a submersible pump. There is no reason now to install a larger, heavier, less efficient single phase motor with a start winding down into a well.
Now a simple smoother running three phase pump is placed in the well. A control panel takes single or three phase utility power. And sends three phase to the pump.
Less down the well that can go wrong, the better.
Softer starting with less pipe torquing. Less dimming of lights on startup. The pressure switch has no moving parts. The motor varies speed so it doesn't stop, start, stop, start, stop, start every 30 seconds to 2 minutes during an extended but modest flow of water.
