how much angle iron??

Hey folks,
I'd like to put a box on the frt of my tractor, bolted where the hitch is in the picture.

Most it would hold is 200 pounds. Main reason is to carry a Generator or Chainsaw. Would like to bolt the hitch back on the frt for light stuff. My idea is a continiuos piece of angle iron that I knotch and bend to shape and weld then drop in a plywood bottom.
How big (dimensions) do you think I need to use? The box will be 24"x18".

Thanks for any advice.

On my AC D17, 53 hp, I used 3 inch channel alongside the engine, across the front, and about another 15 inches forward to make a box, front hitch, and some uprights on each side to hang chains from. Few cross angles for the bottom to hold rocks, etc. Real handy for pushing wagons into sheds, etc, haven't bent anything in over 20 years.

I would say a piece 3 x 3 in would work quite well, 1/4 inch thick. That 3 inches would be wide enough for nice big bolt holes to bolt to your frame. But that said....If I were doing it, I would go to my scrap pile and pick anything i felt was heavy enough. just brace it everywhere you think it will need it and weld it good.

You have GREAT taste in tractors! I like. If there isn"t a pic of this red beauty in the tractor photo gallery....perhaps you could add it?

You might install a receiver hitch using 2 " id tubing to except all
kinds of things . Box to haul with, Hitch to pull with . hook to pull
with & you can even use for small Electric winch . And you don't
have to remove bracket just leave on and make a bumper that goes
in receiver.

from what I can see you want to put it in place of the ball in the front I would make it bolt on there and then rest on the sides at the grill for support. and use the ball for the bolt that way it is always there then build the box to bolt or pin onto the bracket made to the hitch ball that way the add on it the box not take the ball off then change back to it when needed use all same size bolts or even implement pins that way you can keep the tools needed in a utility box for removal in the field if needed

Think I like the receiver idea just for the ease of taking it out of the way if necessary. The siderail ideas won't do it in my case without a bunch of modifying which would have to be approved by the inspection folks. Can also modify an existing box to slide in.
Thanks for the boost....

Just curious- I know that you are in Germany, and there are restrictions about narrow roads, equipment, etc., but please explain about getting approval from 'inspection folks'. Inquiring mind wants to know----and hopefully it does not come here too soon!

Every vehicle has a title/data sheet (cars, trucks, MC, tractors, etc) with the info on it. Info includes type of catylisator (if applicable), tire size, weight, demensions, hitch specs w/ max weights, built on equipment, etc.

Everything gets inspected IAW these papers and safety. Bought my tractor without a frontloader, put one on it and had to dance a little. Changed the frt tires a half inch and had to change paperwork for an additional 50 bucks. They aren't real keen on homemade stuff because it has no test data. They are tuff because tractors have the same traffic rights as cars.
