Seed purchase warning

Just to let those serious corn growers out there know. Syngenta (Golden Harvest, Garst, Northrup King) sold a Round up ready seed this last year that did not carry the round up gene in 100% of the seed. There were as high as 90 percent yield losses in these fields across the nation. Syngenta has promised settlement for these losses since September 1st. Yet most have received no payment. I encourage you to ask your seed dealer if all his customers have received fair settlement before accepting any order fom this company of false promises. They sell an impure product at a premium price only to leave the customer holding the bag. Since it was a seed quality issue there is no crop insurance payment applicable , However we still had to pay crop insurance premium and lower APH on the farm involved. Looking for a new seed provider, Any recommendations

I had a DeKalb dealer deliver the wrong stuff to me a few years ago. I killed it with Roundup. Called him,he showed up kind of sheepish and oops. Told me the warranty only covered half the cost of seed. Long story short,he replaced $170 a bag RR Bt with cheap 85 day RR. And no damages for yield loss or the cost of rootworm control. I've been buying Fielders Choice every since. Got all RR,half was Bt for an average of $128 a bag for 2009 crop year.

We've been planting Mycogen silage specific hybrids for about 10 years now, and we've been having great results. I know they make some for grain as well. I'm not sure what the costs are as my dad takes care of that end, but the most years our corn looks better than most in the area.

yup--friend of mine plants only fielders choice---nothing but bad results with aallllll the rest--cost much less per bushel also!!!!!

Check out the link below. We have been planting it for years. Good yields and cheap prices. I can email the price sheets if ya want. Our seed corn this year was under $100 a bag... was all conventional though. We are in Northern IN so you would have to get with them on the shipping costs.

My son was a field rep for Syngenta several years ago. Seems like everyone he knew bailed and left Syngenta about the same time he did. Seems like they spent all the $$ to buy up all these companies then just fell apart.

I am a claims supervisor for a crop insurance company, and this is not a covered peril.

One side of me wants to ditch the whole GMO thing and go back to generic seed (if you can still find it), but the other side knows that we have had some of the best yields ever in spite of drought, etc.

Still,no Monsanto fans around central MO.

I bought Renk again for '09. I was gonna switch but turned out the seed did much better than some others in the area. I didnt fertilize as heavy as I should have and my poulation was low. I ended with 91 bushels an acre, We harvested on october 25th and had an average test weight of 57.2 and 17.1% moisture. That was an 85 day RR. This year I am going to 92 and 95 day non RR but the 95 day is yeild gaurd corn borer. They are also a much higher yeilding corn and I am utilizing my chick poop. This is on drier sandy soils of central MN. Beans were terrible but it was a bad ear all around here for beans and I planted too low of population and picked the wrong variety for my soils. My fault.

the last several years we have been plantin a lot of LG and crows. I dont car3e much for the crows but we have had excellent luck with LG and our local seed reps have been really good at helping us with questions and concerns and dont hesitate to come out and see what the problem is and try to help cure it I like them because they are still an independent seed company and not owned by monsanto

I see a lot of the guys here are recommending some cheaper seed, but in my experiences the cheaper seed isn't better. We've used both, and the cheap seed has never been better. It doesn't dry down as good and most generally doesn't yeild as well. You won't see any of the cheaper generic seed planted on our farm, but that is our opinion, not saying it is the only way.
