I have a 1066 i bought last week. It ran great. I didn"t drive it for a week and went to start it up this morning. No powersteering at all. You turn the steering wheel all you want and the front tires don"t move. It has hydrolic fluid. I don"t see any leaks or busted hoses on the front. (that i can tell) no puddles. any suggestions. It did sit out in a terrible down pour earlier this week.

Need some things to look for..

Thanks,

Les

Hi Les,

That's an IH thing; especially, if ya just bought the tractor.

99% of the time, it just needs the hydraulic oil and filter changed. Did you notice that "singing" noise in the belly of the tractor? That's the oil bypassing the filter.

Oh yeah, and I sure wouldn't worry about it sitting outside. :>)

I know this is a dumb question, but just got the tractor. WHere is the hydroulic filiter on the 1066?

Thanks,

allan, are the last 4 tractors all 1976 models? i sure wish i hadn't allowed our little 284 to get sold either [ it wasnt nearly as nice as yours] but it sure did mow good

Allen,

Also, any idea on how much hyrdolic fluid a 1975 1066 holds. i ordered the manuals not here yet.

thanks,

les

Get the tractor good and hot; the power steering will probably come back.

If so, change the hydraulic fluid and filter under the round cover on the lower right belly. Gonna take 20 gallons or so. Clean the by-pass screen also.

The darned oil absorbs moisture then in the winter it freezes and won't pass thru the filter. That's why ya gotta get it hot to be sure and get all the moisture out of the hydraulics.
