The serial number is 141000 and the number above it is 860. I assume the 8means its a wide front end, the 6 means it has a five speed trans. and a live pto, and the 0 means it was built in late 1957! Am I correct? MY tractor has a wide front axle, 5 speed trans. double clutch, live pto, and a three point hitch.

According to the serial # index at left of this page your tractor is a 1957 model 860 Ford.Your tractor may have been repainted and decals added somwhere down the line. The 801 series were built from 1958 thru 1962.That being said a few may have been built in late 1957.Your tractor should be stamped 861 instead of 860 if is a 801 series.

The 8 means it has a 172 cu in engine and is a Ag style tractor. All the ag style tractors had wide front ends.
The 6 means it has a 5 speed with live PTO
The 0 means it is from the X00 series and was built between Sept 1954 and Sept 1957.

Your serial # 141000 tells us it was built in 1957 and from the range of #'s for that year I would guess about late July to sometime in Aug.

The X01 tractors started production in Sept of 1957.

my dad has a 861 powermaster he said the 1 is for live power cant remember the year of his but i know it was a demonstrator model only had a 4 digit number he got in alot of arguments over the number but he called ford themselves after a week of searching they found it was a demo his also has a mallory distributor he wants to get electronic ignition for it but cant find one for that distributor

You have an 800 series tractor not and 801. 800s came before the 801 and where made from 1955 to 1957. In 1958 they started the 801 series. Yes you have a 5 speed and a 2 stage clutch giving it live PTO
