Truck Door wont close !!!!

I was at a friends house tonight, and was asked to give someone else a ride home. After I dropped off the person my passenger door would not stay latched. So I had to drive home sitting in the middle of the truck, driving with my left foot, hold the door shut.

Could this be due to the cold? I looked at the latch a little when I got home, and it appears as the its just not "clicking" So I ran a racket strap around the arm rest, and through the door handle and said I would deal with it in the morning.

Any one Have Ideas??? Its a 2004 F150

Thanks
Tom

Could be that the latch isn't in the right position, had that happen more then once. Or it could be that you have some water in it and it has froze in the open position. If it has froze that way a blow dryer and then a good spray of something like WD40 should fix it. If its the latch in the wrong position just pull the handle and position it like it should be

Of course, it only happened in winter.. Forgot to pay the Pope Huh????

After you play with the latch on the door and verify that it works, check the post in the door jam to make sure it hasn't worked loose and moved.

Good Luck..

It's the cold. Take a hair dryer to the door latch and it should free up. Spray with wd-40. I had it happen to the car yesterday.

Lance didn't back it in a garage for you did he ?

You see what he did to his purple truck??

I think these other guys answered your question I'm just rattling Lances chain---LOL

I think Old is right. You need to examine the door latch. It has happened to me before. Use a screwdriver and flip the latch up. I believe it is out of position. Hope you get it fixed! Give it a dose of W-D 40 like others have suggested.

On a '96 Chevy 1/2 ton-so not 100% comparable-had that happen at a big box lumber yard. Thought I would have to tear the door apart, replace parts, etc. Somehow, it had gotten latched, without being closed. Just had to pull a handle, and it released-haven't had anymore problems. Greg

Yep, sounds like the latch mech is closexd ith the door open. Might could pry it open with a screwdriver. Dependin' how it's stuck, you might have to pull on the handle as if opening to get it to release with the screwdriver.

Hey there:
Happened to my sons door just yesterday.
The post in the door frame had come loose,
it takes a "torx?" wrench, all I had to
do was tighten it, and adjust it to latch
properly, its fine now.
