fertilizer prices/best place to buy

i live in the nc piedmont. and went to lowes yesterday to buy a ton of fertilizer (10-10-10) and they waned 20 BUCKS A BAG and thats only for a 40lb bag. and they wanted 30.00 bucks a bag for 17-17-17 for a 40lb bag. i went there last year and payed 7.44 a bag for 10-10-10. lowes home improvment is always the cheapest place in town. dose anybody know where to get ferilizer at cheaper prices around this area. or any wholesales places. also what are yall small time farmers like me doing about this???

I am also in Piedmont of N.C. Look in your telephone directory under listings for fertilizer or farm supplies. Southern States Co-Op or independent farm suppliers in farming areas will have better prices than the two stores that you mentioned, they cater to the suburban crowd.

Just so you know, small & large farmers are facing the same thing. A year ago fertilizer was $350-400 a ton. This summer it was $600 a ton. This fall it was $900-1000 a ton.

Many farmers are waiting, as fertilizer prices are starting to fall a bit on world markets. Unfortunately it can take 6 months to order & get it here from the world market, so many dealers have it all locked in at the super high prices, hard for them to lower it any _now_.

It will be an interesting spring to see how this all sorts itself out. If too many of us waited for spring, might not be enough fert around to get it all done.

Either way, it won't be 'cheap' this year.

One farm store was getting 19.60 for 50lb bags.I bought 40 lb bags for 9.69 at TSC.Both 10 10 10 .Most fertilizer is put up in plastic bags now so you can buy off season and store it.If you have the cash buy in ton lots.Lowes is not the place to buy fertilizer.Use your telephone to find the best price.When I bought a lot of fertilizer in ton lots the store delivered free.

We can buy 46-0-0 for 450 dollars a ton 2205 lbs in our dollars right now ,have to bin it with in 30 days,Anhydrous ammonie is 875 dollars a ton = 2205 lbs our funds,it has came down ,this is buying at a semi load lot,Patrick
