Well the predicted ice storm happened. Not a big area but a section of central IL got alot of ice thursday evening. Sounded like right here in Fulton and Peoria counties were about the worst. Wasnt as bad as it could have been but what a pain. The lights went out shortly after midnight, early friday morning. We were without power for 36 hours.
The 4020 sat on the generator from 7 am friday till just after noon today.

It did just fine. Shut it off about 5 last night and checked the oil. Filled it up at ten last night and then topped it off at 6am this morning. When the power came back on I shut everything down and took the 4020 to the fuel barrel shut it off and now it wont start. Acts like it isnt getting any fuel. Doesnt matter, I have 1086 ready to go now because the forecast if for high winds and everything is still covered with ice.
Here are some pics from friday morning while I was doing chores.

Natures' tree pruner. It has been a long time since I raised cattle..do they eat more to keep warm? Leonard

I dont like ice either. An avid outsdoors man that I know fell backwards on the ice a few weeks ago and hit the back of his head on the ice, was in the hospital for a while, they buried him monday, he donated organs to save others. Even the most experienced can get caught off gaurd.

Hi Bill,

I've always enjoyed your great pics. Thanks!

Sounds like it quit running just at the right time!

We moved from Co to Az 25yr ago and never looked back at the cold weather!

It hasnt been to cold, yet, 29 today, so they are eating pretty normal but it is going to be a high of 8 above tomorrow so everybody got some fresh bedding today and we have enough hay out to last a couple extra days. The ice is everywhere. It took probably close to an hour friday morning as the sun was coming up to get the doors to the sheds open. Gates, doors, nothing works right in this mess. We will be chipping ice off of things for a few days. Luckily I only have fallen once. The ice isnt as slick as sometimes. We got some sleet with it so it is a very tough but rough surface, still slick enough you have to be careful walking and to slick for tractors to get any real traction. I would rather have gotten a foot of snow. I hate ice!

I agree!!! We had about 3/8" of ice on everything Friday morning here in Rock Island County. Ice scraper wouldn't touch it. Ended up using a claw hammer and pecking at the ice to get car door open to warm it up to go to work. Had to use hammer on the windows too. At least the power stayed on. Getting snow and wind tonite. Bill,Be carefull on that ice doing chores and getting things going. As always, thanks for the great pictures. It looks like the cattle are doing fine through it, it shows that they are well taken care of. Ice is always a challenge, we had it last year followed by snow so I know what you are dealing with. Take care

I'm just east of you, in Piatt county. We had a little less ice, a few branches down. Power out 14 hours yesterday, so the automatic generator was a good investment. It shut off last night about 11:00 when the power came on, and the lights didn't even flicker. High of 4 tomorrow- not looking forward to that, but the ice could have been a lot worse.

2 years ago we had an ice storm in the St. Louis area in Illinois. Lost power for 6 days. I ran my gas generator the whole time .Had to fill it with gas twice a day, and then drive to town and buy $30.00 worth of gas every day.

About 5 years ago we had a bad ice storm on bare ground. The cows were up on a hill were I was feeding them. They could not or would not desend the hill to get water. What a nighmare. I used the old 706 with chains and was able to climb the hill with a bale of straw on behind. I let the bale roll down the hill and lit the straw on fire. Took 4 bales to get a path down off the hill. Finally coaxed the cows down by rolling hay over the burned area. I tell ya nothing make you nervous like a 706 sliding down a hill towards oak trees and a large ditch!

VERY nice looking 4020. I also hate ice unless its in my tea.Fuel probably gelled. You might try using a hair dryer on the lines and filters. Then try the primer pump.

High of 60 today in southeast arizona. The only ice I saw was what went into my Captain Morgan!!(Just a nip before dinner) I was outside with my 4yr old grandson, teaching him how to ride his bike after I took off the training wheels. He took off his sweatshirt and rode around in his 'T'shirt. Said it was too hot. Gotta love it.
