O/T Union, hard at work.

As a union worker that stuff just makes me angry.
Those fat milk men need to get fired.
80% of the work gets done by 20% of the workers.
Unfortunately when the companys crack down its the 20% that get hurt. They only know how to work harder. The slappys already know how to play the system so they dont get fixed.
greetings from a 20%er.

These lazzy Bast%&$ are killing unions and the people who depend on them.

That fat old guy has not worked a day in his life. If you show up alot for work Ford gives you prizes and a party. If I dont show up for work I dont get paid and I am union. All I can say is God bless George Meany ,he sure knew how to negotiate for the autoworker.[I dont think two guys that didnt do jack all day is what is killing Ford]Those two never worked anyhow.

Unions are made up of people, just the same as manufacturers and financiers; none of the three do a very good job of policing their members...
Goofing off, cutting corners, unethical behavior is contagious and infectious...if A gets away with something, B and C begin to wonder why they shouldn't think the same; it's just human nature, and the 20% or so, who won't, bear the burden.

That news clip really hurt the Unions. We have a Union at my place of employment Bobcat, Our board members don"t have that much freedom.Thank God. Yes i am a member, do i agree 100% with them ,No. Our plant is in tough times right now, We have a 6 week production shut down, Just salaried personal working. Not complaining to much. unemployement helps, but the nice thing is with all the cold weather and snowstorms, i can stay home and chase momma around the house

No, you're not quite right.

That's how union LEADERSHIP works. The rank-and-file workers would never get by with that.

And at the plant where I worked, even the UAW local leadership couldn't get by with that. Of course, we had 600-800 workers spread over three shifts, so the absence of the local president for more than a few minutes would be noticed almost immediately.

That 80:20 ratio doesn't just apply to union jobs. I had a union job and a non union job and from my experience it was far worse at the non union place. There were bad apples in the union job too but favoritism was played much more in the non union work place. I'm in a different type of work now and like it best.

You would not believe the animalistic behavior and decadence that takes place in those union halls. Even when the hall is brought to order and the speakers address the members it defies logic in the most simplist of terms. It is time to put an end to the UAW and their protection of all that is wrong with the American worker.

Not where I worked. Of course, we had 2 paid "personal" days ["P-days"] and an unpaid "emergency" day ["E-day"] beyond the vacation days we could NOT schedule [summer shutdown and Christmas shutdown]...but after they instituted a $500 bonus for a year's perfect attendance, we had attendance percentages in the high 90's.

Of course, we still had a few people who abused their FMLA leave...so much so, that the unofficial words for the acronym were "Fire My Lazy Azz." Since FMLA days were unpaid, it really didn't make much sense to take them unless you really had an emergency...but some folks did anyway.

But they were distinctly in the minority.

In the 5 years I worked there, I got the attendance bonus 4 times. The 5th year, I was off for gall bladder surgery, and hadn't accumulated enough time afterwards when the plant closed.

Our "union hall" was at a local country-music venue, so there wasn't a whole lot of decadence going on. Worst problem was keeping the building a nonsmoking area...and after we let folks smoke outside on the porch, it wasn't a problem there, either.

Then, when the company changed our work shits, the company provided us with one of those GE Mobile Office buildings--a trailer--to serve as the union office. Again, the decadence wasn't a problem there because it's hard to have very much "animalistic behavior" in the meeting room of a single-wide trailer.

But you just keep your image of the UAW, true or not...just so you understand that not ALL locals are run that way.

Is this still true? At Cat if a welder is found with slugs in the tool box are they fired????

UNIONS-they are a joke.In my life I worked at a place where they made forklifts. One of the old timers Bill would go out in the warehouse take a forklift and lift him self up 20 feet into a storage bin with his coffee and playboy. He would come out for breaks and lunch and that is where he stayed all day making the big bucks. And the bosses knew about it.When I got laid off he comes up to me and said my unions protects me.Give me a break.I worked at the post office a short time and the crap that goes on there is unreal--again the unions protect the old timers. The unions with there high wages and benefits have been a big part of killing this country.A fact.

Well that might be what some union people do.I still rather would work at a union place than a non union place. There are always people on any job, union or non union, that either dont do anything,or screw up more than they fix.Usually the ones with the most pay, abuse things the worst.Like the non union managers, were mostly a waste of everybodys time. Some people work, some people are a drag, their whole life.Never did understand how they got away with it,must have dirt on the boss or something.

Lets stop blaming the little guy this problem is not the fault of the union workers (although those two jerks should be fired and don't deserve union protection),this is purely mismanagement by people being paid obscene amounts of money(I think the head of GM made about 30 million last year).

(quoted from post at 08:37:04 12/19/08) This is how the union works.
UAW
thought I saw that dirty little former Nasdaq chairman MADOFF in the background of one of those videos,oh heck maybe it was head of aig insurance company

What most people are missing is it's not always what the Union does, it's the failure of management to get a good days work out of the members.
I would not make what I do if it was not for the Union. But some of the workers do not do their job. The management lets it go and does not deal with it.
We have not had a raise in a year and a half. But they added several management positions formore than $125,000 each.

I watched the vidio, and it seemed like it was designed to attack the institution of unions in general.
I am not a member of the UAW, but I am a member of the USW "Steelworkers" and the offices of our Local union are staffed through an election process.
If what I saw in the Vidio was factual, and if the UAW also elects thier offices, then it would appear that new candidates would stand a good chance of holding those positions.
It is easy to shine the spotlight on the "Bad Apples" and recommend throwing out the whole bushel of fruit without bothering to recognize the many good apples in the bunch.
I thank My Local Union for achieving the folowing benefits through collective bargaining:

No mandatory work on Sunday,
paid holidays,
paid vacation,
a formal grievance proceedure,
a defined pension plan,
defined company contribution towards health insurance,
Seniority Rites,
8 hour work day,
and many more....

p.s. I know from my past expierance that there are lazy employees in non-union work sights also.
