O.T.--Oil--What is going on?

With a barrell of oil selling for $37.**, what is going on? Gasoline, in N.W. Alabama, is $1.65 for regular which is higher then most areas around me.
I am afraid the big oil companies and politicians have a surprise for us! These people are going to get the money they say they are loosing and I think we are the "goat". It is hard for me to get excited about these lower prices but I am happy for struggling people.
I just filled everything I have with diesel and gas and bought an additional 30 gal. of gas.
I may be contributing to an oil shortage!

Yeah, they want to see oil in the $70-80 range. Well, the American consumer has a surprise for THEM. We've cut back and I, for one, will NOT change my new oil consumption habits even though the price is dropping. Wait till the new electric car technology starts to become mainstream in the next 10 years or so.

People lined up here to moan and groan about oil at $120-$147 a barrel and not making obscene amounts of money like "somebody" else is.

buickanddeere---I am NOT complaining!! I think gas at $4.00 a gallon was a bargain if you compare it to other goods. I feel for those on fixed income that have to eliminate a meal just to buy gas.
What concerns me is $6-8.00 a gallon may be just around the corner.
I have noticed a big increase in traffic in my area, and I have friends that have large SUVs and 4door trucks, that have started driving them again. When the demand goes back up, so will the price!

The news says that Americans are driving less and less because they have discovered they have no money saved to actually buy things.

But this is a retarded assumption, because now that prices are down, I see tons of suburbans and Mercedes doing near a hundred on the highway.

It's just a "whatever" country right now.

I think oil is cheap. Just think of all the middle men a barrel of oil goes though. They have to find the oil, drill for it, pump it out, pump it to where they store it. Load it on a oil tanker. Pay what I heard one time was 5 million a load in insurance. Come all the way across the ocean with it. Unload it, store it, then pump to refinery, refine it store it again. Then put in a semi to take to another storage place before it finaly goes into the truck that finaly bring's it to your local store. All that for 1$ per gallon because 1 barrel of oil is only 42.0 U.S gallons. They may own all the middle men but you know they don't make minimum wage. Don't get me wrong I like it cheap to but its hard to complain when it passes through so many hands it could be alot higher.

Well the Mid East is NOT the only oil producing countries. And we have a global recession going on. What OPEC is willing to cut back on, other countries are willing to fill the production demand....Sorry OPEC!

The statement about medical also covered Canada. You may get care but it isn't up to US standards.
The government and police rarely go on raids into people's homes without at least 1/2 a reason.

Yes the county hospitals do take people that don"t have insurance. But the county don"t foot most of that bill The poor ba$+urd that has insurance and pays taxes ends up paying for it not only in premiums But high deductibles . My insurance for my wife, I and 2 kids on the policy With a $5000 deductible is $16000 per year and We have never been sick or collected on anything.

The county hospitals? Emergency room service required to be provided to fix emmediate problems- but if you have cancer and no insurance like one guy I know(same cancer I got treated for)- you must provide money up front or wait awhile- possibly die, he ended up trying for $50,000.00 loan for treatment secured by farm.. The welfare medical policies cover some children fair, but adults with some assets are stuck with own bills. I know a couple that when husband started work and wife needed some throat work were told they made too much money to qualify for county assistance- if divorced she could get assistance. US medical system regarding payments is a bit confused. RN

Hosptitals have to take anybody without insurance for emergency situations only - not for normal medical care.

If you have a disease that was going to kill you in a year or two without treatment like chemotherapy - and you had no insurance - there's a good chance you'd die and not get the treatment. Same for transplants. The one big exception is - if you give up your house. Then you can qualify for welfare and medicaid and get any medical treatment you want - no matter how long-term.

I know a guy that just did it. He had/has Hepatitis C. He got pretty sick and doctors told him he'd need a transplant soon - die - or - it might be avoided with chemo via Interferon. He had no medical insurance. So, he quit his job and applied for Medicaid - but was rejected because he owned a house. Finally found a loophole and got the treatment - not sure what he did (or lied about).

My neighbor, a dairy farmer, has never had health insurance. A few years ago, he had a double hernia so bad he couldn't stand up. Hopitals were wouldn't help unless he mortgaged his farm and cows. Finally, he sold a few cows to get some cash - and went to Canada for the operation. With cash, it was MUCH cheaper in Canada. Last I heard, he could only do tha because he was a US citizen, and Canadian citizens cannot pay for such service?

By the way, I'm not complaining about lack of coverage. My complaint is about the people that abuse the system and get this stuff for free - while my taxes pay for stuff I often can't even get for myself.

Have you heard that OPEC has just cut production by over 2 million barrels per day? That's because of lower demand globally. (Globally means all over the world). Have you read that US stocks of gasoline are bulging. That means we have a lot of excess supply because the economy is slowing, companies are producing, (making), less product, (stuff), and shipping less, thus lowering the amount of fuel they need. More people are out of work, so less driving. Weather has been bad in many places, less driving. Get it?

You surely ended your economics education in the 4th grade, where the rest of your learning also ceased.

Assuming welfare has it's own set of fees it pays, would you care to comment on whether you'd prefer to be a welfare patient or a well-heeled private patient with nice coverage or oodles of cash, as to the quality and extent of care you'd receive for the same medical condition.
My own opinion is that there'd be a considerable difference in said quality and extent.

That's exactly what happened with oil. Demand was high, so everyone was producing and refining as much oil as they could. The demand stopped. All that oil in tankers and pipelines has no place to go. Huge pileup. And guess what: once things start moving again, it's going to be awhile before production gets as high as it was before. Expect high prices again in the not-to-distant future.

From what I've seen the welfare patient gets basic care after some waiting. I definitely prefer to have decent insurance and extra cash. Veterans Hospitals have fixed up younger brother over years- but they have some limitations also, timing considerations, medications, trying to dry him out doesn't work. RN.

Red, now you know why no one has build an oil refinery in this country in 40 or so years. There is no demand for one ! Your beliefs are wrong, there is no conspiercy by environmental nazi groups to destroy the economy , wreck our country,or defile your god! The oil guys know that the economy cycles, along with fuel prices and they had adaquate refining capicity even in a super heated economey. If anything environmental opposition may have helped saved billions of dollars by not building a worthless refinery that would have never distilled a gallon of crude !
