I have a set of chanins for a 16.5 rim. Will these chains fit on a 16 in pick-up rim? Is there a way to measure tire chains that are not in the original box. Thanks for any help. Stan

You are downsizing-you'll just have a bit left over on each one.

Stretch the chains out flat on the floor and measure the length, and then measure the circumference of the tire. The diameter of the wheel has very little to do with it.

I generally try unknown chains on a spare tire if one is available. The tire doesn't even have to be mounted on a rim. It is much easier than crawling under a vehicle to mess with them. Depending on the width of the tire, your 16.5 chains may be a close fit on the 16. I am running a set of chains right now that seem to fit both the 235/85/R16 on my Ford, or the 9.50/R16 on my Dodge.
If the chains are too long, a quick chop with the bolt cutters or hacksaw fixes the problem. Be sure to leave enough extra to make it easy to hook them up in "less than ideal" conditions. Like when you are already in the ditch in a foot of snow.

Doesn't have much to do with the rim - it's the actual tire size you go by. Pretty easy to look up any tire size and get the exact specs to diameter and width. To, just go to tirechain.com and use their calculator.
A 9.5 X 16.5" tire is exactly the same size for chains as a 245/75 - 16" tire.
An 8.75 X 16.5" tire is the same as a 235/75-15" tire (for fitting chains).
That being said, you can make any chain fit anything if you've got some good chain pliers and extra chain.

I bought these chains when I made a couple trips to Montana years ago.I have never put a set of chains on a tire, and never will. I want to put the chains on craigs list for sale. Since 16.5 tires are not very popular now I thought they may fit 16 in rims. Here in Calif we have dummies that go to the mountains looking for snow, and need chains. Stan
