Allis Chalmers 8550? What do you think?

Any body have any experience with an AC 8550? Looks like a decent amout of horsepower for the money. Could use it to pull the ripper or big disc chisel when the other tractors are busy. What engine and transmission doe these have? Any big problems? Any parts available? Cab relatively quiet? Thanks.

neighbor has one. with a hole in the block. from what i've read, the engine will last if the thing isn't throttled up to the max. neighbor apparently hadn't read that, although he had a lot of fun running it until it blew.

My uncle has one of these. Same cab and shift as the 7000 series tractors.... Crude and noisy. Like stated before don't run the crap out of it and it should be ok for a while. Would be better if it had a cummins repower in it. Engine is the weak spot but has lots of power and overall very cheap horsepower. Very economical to run when you figure gallons of fuel per acre vs a FWA tractor.

If you know the original owner make sure it had all the updates from valve springs to main drive problems there were a ton of updates as a dealer before we went out of business one update was allowing 40 hours flat rate which is a bunch but it is a big tractor. The 4W-305 should have all the updates. She's a monster.

Quietest cab in the industry at the time was on the 7000 series Allis and this has a similar cab. If the updates have been done then not bad tractor. Don't horse up the engine.
