Be careful out there

Please be careful when jumping or boosting batteries. Yesterday morning a good friend of mine had the charger hooked to his 3020 battery. He thought the positive clamp was touching the platform, and reached to move it. It sparked and the battery blew up in his face. Luckily he didn"t get enough acid in his eyes to do permanent damage, or get knocked out and freeze to death. It blew the top clear off the battery. So be careful. Lee

That's for sure, was deaf for a second or 2 when the Ford 960 blew on me - leaning down to press the starter, fortunately the tin work shielded me, but your face is about a foot or so from the top of the battery. The top was about 40 feet away to the side.

About 15 years ago I watched a battery explode in the face of a boy who way trying to jump start it with a booster box (he hooked it up backwards). Sounded like a shotgun, he fell back screaming like a banshee, we had to hold him down and hose off his face. Thankfully we got the acid washed off of him before permanent damage was done.

You know where the battery sits on a Allis WD? One exploded on my grandfather when he was raking hay for no apparent reason. The battery box cover had long since been lost, so it was an acid bath. Luckily one of the posts whizzed past his ear and didn't hit him square. Also lucky that he wears glasses because he was a long way from a water hose. He didn't get any permanent damage. He tried washing the clothes he was wearing, but they pretty much came out of the washer as threads.
