Got in trouble last night

Momma came home last night and caught the boys and I watching outlaw Josey Wales- 6 yr.old twins and a 9 yr. old. They asked "what is he spittin and chewing"? I told them beef jerky.

I was watching Lethal weapon 1 last night with my 7 year old son. No swear words but lots of shooting. Wifey didnt like that when she got home from work.

Sometimes with children the truth is the best policy. That way they have no misperceptions. That's my policy, you are free to do as you see fit.

Tell them it was home grown tobacco and they can have some -after they grow it themselves. If they do grow some and try to chew it-and don"t get too sick- you can let them drink their homemade whiskey. By the time they make the still you should be partly recovered from wifes skillet and will need a sip yourself.

Whats the problem. If you raise them right, movies like that wont harm them. I watched them with my dad. I watched war movies and westerns all the time as a kid. Much better than all the perverted sitcoms and cartoons on these days, right after school I may add. I cant remember the name but it was with Robert Redford as a trapper in the wilderness, good flick as well.

If the worst thing kids ever watched on the tube was Clint Eastwood, society would be in a lot better shape that it is right now...............

Although that being said, I'm kind of thinking my wife would side with yours too ;)

As funny as they are for us, The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. are absolute rubbish for children to watch............

(quoted from post at 14:48:02 12/16/08) Jeremiah Johnson, one of the best westerns of all time. Rent it now that you are older ,you will love it.

That's the one where he got the rifle off a guy frozen to a tree (Hatchet Jack)? Think I was 9 or 10 when I saw it. There were a couple of others along the same story line and same time, one was Frontier Freemont. Can you name some others? I'd sure like to try and find them. Catch some old westerns on late night TV here but the German dubbing takes away the fun. Just saw the Clint Eastwood one the other night where he had the folks paint the town red. He had been a sheriff there before and had been horsewhipped. Saw Pale Rider but wasn't able to follow the translation real well.

Hell! both of my girls are growed up and have grandchildren of there own. And my wife still gets mad if I watch murder shows.

PS I think its just women.

Dave,

My favorite movie of all time is "Johnson County War". It's set in
the late 1800's and is about the range wars between the
cattlemen and the settlers. The scenery is breathtaking, the
music is exquisite, the costuming is great, and the story is very
interesting. It's based on a novel named "Riders of Revenge". In
this case, I think the movie is better than the book.

If you can find it, I think you'll like it.

There's nothing wrong with watching a good old Clint Eastwood movie in my book, especially The Outlaw Josey Wales. One of my personal favorites there, sir. :D

This worry is from the generation that watched the Road Runner drop the anvil on the Coyote's head every Saturday morning?

If it has John Wayne or Clint Eastwood in it, it will be a good show. But, one of my favorites is Paint Your Wagon, Lee Marvin and Clint. Laughed myself silly, and then laughed some more. Wife likes The Villian with Kirk Douglas and Arnold Swartzenegger.

I've seen all those how about "Open Range" with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall and that pretty little thing Oh you know Warren Beatty's wife? My favorite all time western. They need to bring back more westerns.

Open Range was alright and I like old westerns. However in my book , "Lonesome Dove" brought the western to a new level. What a Fantastic Movie it is.

Yes, yes, yes! Funny for adults but, except for Lisa, poor example for boys and what a sad portrayal of parents.

Understand the humor, if I was sitting next to the kid and we were talking, well, hmmm.

I like those old movies and can watch them over and over. The other night I watched one of my favorites for about the 15th time. It was Jeramia Johnson. That movie is kind of based on a true story. There really were a group of trappers in the early 1800's that made their living in the rockies trapping and hunting and surviving in the cold. The real J Johnson did marry an Indian that was killed by another tribe and Johnson spent the rest of his days killing off members of that tribe one by one or two by two. It was said that he actually ate the livers of the Indian enemys he killed which gave him strength as a mountain warrior. When he died, he had alledgedly killed hundreds of Indian warriors.

finally bot a copy & watched it last week ( takes 3 nights). It never loses a thing in the re-watching

Can't beat a good western.
My wife just rolls her eyes and smiles when I watch Pale Rider, Big Jake or Quigley down under

I think Robert Duvall is about the best. Loved Lonesome Dove, Open Range, etc. Saw another the other night- Second Hand Lions. Duvall and Michael Caine (an unlikely pair) play a couple of old bachelor brothers who are, well, "unusual". Won't even try to explain it, but its worth watching.

Trivia question- what was Robert Duvall's first movie role?
