O/T Creosote in wood boiler

nothing. i get very little and if you are getting a lot around the door your door is not insulated the way it should be some stoves i have seen have poor doors that have a lot of heat loss and will creosote up real bad

A good hot fire will get rid of the cresote.... though it might also get rid of the house with it.
Prevention is the best bet. Dry wood will go a long way to preventing cresote. Likewise, a hot fire will help... so if the draft is open and it's getting lots of air it should help.

Rod

A small hot fire. Instead of stuffing the firebox full and closing off the air draft to try and make it burn all day on a single fill.

Also, throw about 4 or 5 tablespoons of TSP, tri sodium phosphate on a good bed of coals [so it all don't just blow out the chimney - and has time to loosen the creosote.] Afterwards run it hot for a while to blow it out.
Can get it at hardware stores etc in small tubs about a quart size.
A friend from west Tenn. said they would see chimney fires all over on rainy February days from people cleaning their chimneys. Made me shudder at the thought!
I caught mine on fire once burning a cereal box in it....gave me a good scare!

I generally mix my wood, too, so I don't get too much of any one kind.
Myself, I avoid pine, lots of sap that turns into creosote, I've heard--
If I have any pine, I let it season longer and mix it in very sparingly

Drier wood, and get a real hot fire going. Might be able to find "Creo-shot" sticks or other additives that are supposed to cut down creosote. On a breezy day, and you have some spare time, load the firebox with the door open and just burn the heck outta things.

Like in-too-deep says, I just get a couple of empty cardboard boxes, leave the door cracked open, make sure the wind is blowing away from the yard, and let the smoke roll. I've had flames come out the top of the chimney a couple of times while it is burning the crap out, but it sure is clean after it burns itself out.
