there hasnt been that much going on lately, but i thought id give everyone an update on where i was with it. The oil pan leaks, but you cant tell where from. Or if its the oil pan. It could be the front crank seal.

And the mag now works. I stuck some more wires in it and then turned it right side up, but that was resolved a while back.

Its coming along. I was painting small parts of it off and on until my paint gun koncked out on me.

I shot this video tonight to show everyone where i am at with it. Thanks for everything guys.

Looks like its coming right along. I used to fix up old tractors with my grandfather. Now Grandpa is gone, but I still like old tractors. I enjoy seeing your videos.

Lanse,
You're doing great, now you need to squirt some oil in the cylinders and turn it over a few times, THEN put something in the spark plug holes to keep out dirt and moisture. I'm afraid that thing behind the pulley IS your front oil seal, it needs to be against/into the front cover. If you don't worry about the oil leak NOW you will have a big mess when you start the engine, and a lot of tearing down to fix something that can be "easily" fixed before radiators, etc. are installed.

The ones of us with older computors and on dial up CANNOT recieve any of those videos so we are at a loss trying to figure out what anybody is talking about when they put a video on and it shows what they are talking about. We STILL need still pictures that are clear shot in correct light and focus as so many come thru that are unidentifiable.

I have watched the video several times trying to catch what you was meaning when you made the statment about putting the seal on the crankshaft. However you will have to remove the front cover to make sure you have a good fit on the seal. If the front cover you have on the B is the one that came off the C you got from Hillbilly it might have had the larger seal that comes in the gasket kit. I have machined out several covers for the larger seal. I didn't think the one I sent to Hillbilly was one but ya never know with a fine tooth yard stick. That will need to be checked. The seal needs to have a real snug fit. If for some reason you put a seal on the crankshaft before the front cover was put on it will have to be removed. There is no room for anything in front of the crankshaft timing gear before the cover is put on.

Lanse the seal should be above the oil level in the pan so if you have not run it then there shouldn't be any way for it to leak oil. IF its a small amount it just may be the oil that you used to install it weeping out. Or you overfilled the crankcase.

Walt, If he put the oil in thru the filler in the valve cover the oil would run down thru the openings for the push rods, over the top of the lifters, out the front behind and onto the cam timing gear, onto the crankshaft. If the front of the tractor is down some it would have a small amount drip off the crankshaft seal that is out of place. It would take a while before the drips would completely stop without lifting the front of the engine.

Ya, i know, but what im thinking is this that the seal pictured was left in the front cover and got popped out by the new one i installed. I think this because theres paint on the outisde of the seal and i painted the cover

The new one (HAS) to be installed in the cover and only in the cover.
Ya gota pull the cover off and get that out of there. It is most likely still good.
