That's about as ugly a thing as I've ever seen. I've seen the topstrap blown off a Smith revolver from a reloader forgettin' to turn his brass upside down before puttin' in the powder, and Grandpa blew the side out of shotgun when he was a kid shootin' beans the cows to bring 'em in. But that's just plain ugly.

Like they say; Accidents just don't happen they are caused.

You can't say enough to be careful and keep your mind on what you're doing.

Do you know if this person has been thru the gun safety class?

Two years ago I took the safety class with my son who was 12 at the time. It's the best thing we ever done. In Illinois he needed to pass it to get a Foid card any way. It was a 2 day class at the indoor/outdoor pistol and rifle club just a mile from our house.

I saw this a year or so ago. The impression that I got then was that the excess pressure was vented out of the safety vent at the front of the bolt and that the lock mechanism for the bolt held. There wasn't a picture of a person being carried off on a stretcher, but it's not hard to believe.

The dude on the stretcher is left wing theatrics....pure tripe.

The rifle with the split barrel was on the net over a year ago. I think the shooter might have $hit his pants, but that's about the extent of his injuries.

Thank God, I don't live in Illinois....FOID (Firearm Owner Identification Card). Do goose stepping men in jackboots demand to 'zee your papers' whenever you carry or use a gun in Illinois? I am sure it applies to all citizens equally, except the Governor, the Mayor of Chicago, their minions, and the Mafia overlords.

Gun safety courses are wonderful.....especially for those people who don't know which end of the barrel the cartridge goes in and that all deer rifles are 30-30's. God help us...these people are also allowed to breed...no papers required.

Years ago I caught a couple of old guys trespassing on my farm hunting pheasants. They were waving their 12 gauges around in a very unsafe manner and when one of them swung his gun around I saw snow packed in the barrel. I pointed this out to him and he didn't seem one bit concerned-didn't even know he could blow the barrel apart. When I told him he should get the snow out he started banging on the gun to jar the snow out. That's when I got out of there.Jim

(quoted from post at 07:33:58 12/12/08) Dave why did you put this lie on here. Damn liberals.

I can't prove if it's true or not, if you can, please post the source. True or false though, I had balls enough to post it under my own name. Maybe you should try the same.

That rifle is a Savage 110. It is more like a $350 rifle than a $1200 one. I can not make out the scope, but the mounts are inexpensive Weavers. It is an amazing that reciever didn't become schrapnel. Those are tough rifles. For about $100 that guy could bolt on anouther barrel and go shooting. Although I susbect that guy may have developed an uncontrollable flinch everytime he pulls a triger.

I saw on Mythbusters where they recreated this type of situation, and the barrel didnt split anything like that. It split some when they welded a slug into the end of the barrel, but nothing as bad as is pictured here.

A good friend of mine worked at Walley World in Prarie Du Chine Wisc. He worked the gun area and a person had a 30-30 or a 30-06 bolt action that jambed. It had a trigger guard put on it as it was brought into the store. He loaded a round in and pushed the bolt action ahead. The lady that put the trigger lock on had the trigger in the pulled position.

He explained that it indeed does make alot of noise, and to use the words (escorted out the front door) isn't exactly a accurate discription of the events that followed.

They no longer sell firearms, and you can still see the dent in the beam overhead. No one was hurt, they had a sudden rush on adult diapers that very same hour also.

Seems like a very well planed sales gimick for Wallly diapers.
