Looking for cheap 5 15 tire alternative.

Hello folks, Looking to get some front tires on the old 230 farmall. I only use it to grade the driveway. The ones I have now are falling apart. I dont really need ag tires unless they are really cheap. Is there some kind of car tire I can get? They dont have to be new.

I've seen a few older tractors with those donut spares on the front, and motorcycle tires will also work if you can find the correct size.

Thanks for the replys, Now what would be wrong with regular car tires? It doesnt matter to me what it looks like. Never thought of the doughnut idea.

Add on to post....

I guess it would be the width. 15 inch is the same everywhere right? Maybe change the rims to car rims?

What has the same bolt pattern?

Maybe $25 each would be good. Something used would be good enough. I think our tractor supply is around $65 ea. If I was a working farmer I could justify it, but I just grade the driveway once a month and plow snow occasionally. Too many other money pits going on right now to justify it.

Nothin' wrong with car tires. Radials would be just fine if that's what you find. Wouldn't even need much tread left on them. For the limited use you would give them, they'd probably last forever.

Not to steal the topic, but Im thinking the same thing but in a 4-15 (to fit a Farmall BN).

Ag tires would be great, but just to get the tractor around and mobile Im willing to throw car tires on it. Any idea what the metric size would be that would fit? By metric I mean the XXX/XX R 15 sizing....

I was researching some, and the narrowest common tire is a 185, which equals 7 1/4 inch. My actual measured rim width is about 6 inches, so a 7 1/4 inch wide tire should fit reasonable. I am going to call the tire shops tomorrow and see if they have any take offs with a little tread for the price of the installation.

I'm using old VW studded snow tires on my 9N. I got them free when an old gas station closed. Check around older tire shops or older repair shop & junkyards.

Well I just called around town to the salvage yard and the car tire shop and the tractor tire shop and nobody has anything used fairly narrow. Tractor shop has new ag tires for $52.0 ea. That is what I will have to do. By the time I go out of town I will waste more in time and gas. Thanks for the replys.
