OT: 2005 Chevy Equinox, good, bad, and the ugly.

Anybody have any experience with these?? I"ve found an 05 model, LT, AWD with about 60,000 miles that I can put on the road for around $9000. Seems like a really good deal. Just curious if these devils had any serious problems with them. Local parts guy told me they were hard on wheel bearings/wheel hub assemblies, but other than that, were pretty good rides. Decent trans?? Or am I looking at a rebuild at 100k?? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Not sure. We just bought an 06 Torrent which is the same thing in Pontiac. It had 33,000 on it. Funny you should mention it but a rear wheel bearing failedshortly after. Covered under warranty. We got just the front wheel drive to try for the best mpg. Like the ride and mpg so far. I haven't seen too many mid priced vehicles that can't make it well past 100,000 miles without a rebuild.

I have a 06 LT FWD bought new. This replaced an 02 Buick Rendevous and it had wheel hub issues so I had hoped that got improved. Only thing Equinox rides rougher than my 06 Silverado 2500 HD.

Wife has an 07. No problems so far. It is an awd and the milage stinks but since she got laid off her job of 13 yrs. it sits in garage most of the time so mpg doesn't matter.

My Mom had a Equinox and she liked the vechicle but developed a bad smell. She got the run around with dealer for over a year and a half and finally they gave her a great deal to trade the vechicle in. They first said it was the air conditioner then it was something else. I would stay clear of this vehicle. Type in Equinox smell into google. Be careful as the dealer put air fresheners into my mom's car and it was good bhut the smell came back. Look at the following link.

Not to hijack a thread, but what is the deal with hub assemblies on GM"s? My 05" GMC 1500 had two sets replaced at 65k and 115k, wife had a new body style Blazer that went through 2 of them and I know the new owner has had to replace again, and my "07 2500 chevy is getting one put in right now! Dealer has never had any good answers.

Agreed. Even my cheap 2001 Ford Taurus (bought it with 11K for $8900) has made it well past 150K with only brakes and sensors (all work I did at home) and I plan on running it till at least 200K before I trade it.
