O.T. I'm not sure I understand

Just for curiosities sake I looked at the Mfg.Plate on my '05 Chevrolet Impala and it clearly says"Made in Canada" ,my Ford F350 Truck likewise sports a Mfg.plate which spells out "Made in Canada". other People I have asked if their Vehicle is made in the States and most don't know but some say Mexico and Canada also. Now all the news is that the big 3 Auto Makers are asking the People of the United States [ Our Government] for a Bail Out,helping hand or what ever you want to call it.Do I see something wrong here or should I not be concerned?

concerned is good. we all should be. i think the vehicles should be sold in mexico/canada or wherever else they are made. only made in usa should be sold in usa. cant wait to catch he!! now that i said that. think what you may but if you cant sell it here cause it aint made here then you will make it here to be able to sell it here. i think that would create jobs or at least stir things up abit
just a thought

If we passed legislation so that a vehicle had to be built in the USA to be sold in the USA, then Toyota, Honda, and even Hyundai would have a leg up on the Detroit Three.

The ford trucks are/were made in Oshawa Ontario I think, but that plant closed a year or two ago also?I do know the 2010 Camaro's are supposed to be built in Ontario. As far as I know the big 3 (herein known as Broke 3)are also asking Canada for money too I have heard. There also is a Honda plant in Ontario too.

Maybe the F-150's are built in Canada, but the Super Duty pickups are built in Louisville, KY at Ford's Kentucky Truck Plant [KTP].

Your plan worries me.

About 50% of the crops I raise get exported to other countries. I _don't_ like the direction you are going....... ;)

I'm getting to be a firm believer that Honda and Toyota should be offered the opportunity to buy into this "loan" deal. It would be smart on everyones part. If the big 3 somethins can't get their finances figured out, the other 2 will be making US built cars in their factories. Plain and simple, fix your problem or someone else will without costing the US economy. There are alot of small private businesses that need money due to the box stores selling china junk, where does that stop? If you want money in the US, then stop the imports. Pretty simple.

sure someone alot smarted than me probably has better plans than i would have. like i said its a thought. something has to give though, this country is going to he!! in a handbasket.

GM has a plant in Osawa Ontario. Ford has 4 truck plants that make trucks, 1 in Canada, 1 in Louisville KY, 1 in Wayne Mich, 1 in Lorain Ohio and I think another in Kansas city. Gm and Ford have plants in Canada, and of course Mexico too........

Sounds simple alright but the foreign lobbyists pay our congress men & women too much money for our elected public servants to be concerned with the welfare of the people of the USA.

I think GM has a truck plant in Mexico and one in Canada, plus several in the US. We ship a lot of engines and transmissions to Mexico and Canada.

Why dont they give us the bailout money so we will spend it and get the economy rolling again ? just a question .

The plant in Lorain closed a few years ago. They were making vans there, now they moved the van production to the Avon Ohio plant.

I bought a new 1978 Ford, 3/4 ton, open door and there was the maple leaf, yep, made in Canada even back then. Don c

What"s wrong with Canada?
The Auto manufactures are here too, same companys.Surprised?
The Auto manufactures have thier hands out to the federal and provincial governments here too.In fact the Big Three want more per capita from us than from the Americans.

Crysler builds mini vans in Windsor. The rear wheel drive Fords in St Thomas. Fords Trucks in Brampton.GM trucks in Oshawa as well as front wheel drive sedans. The Firebird was built in Quebec. The Engine plant in St Catherines builds the Corvette engines.

b.t.w. How do you like running your vehicles on Canadian oil instead of middle east oil?

just kills me that people have no idea what they buy as to where it is made best one is all these guys with there John Deers that think it's is all USA. NO tractor is all American made JDs parts come from China also. better yet look at your food every thing has a country of origin on the package don't just look at the company origin but product origin. just about ALL sea food comes from some third world country check your eggs they come from China

Nothing wrong with Canada, and last I checked you Canadiens were Americans also,"but" I would have to reserve an opinion of your assertions until I knew the quantity of United States produced Vehicles "Imported " into Canada versus the quantity of Canadien Vehicles exported to the United States. That said,The "Big Three" Auto Co's.apparently are in finacial difficulty and who isn't? But,why should the United States Public or Canadien Public for that matter take on the rescue of any Global Corp.? Don't bring up the Wall Street Circus, that is another matter. Question, why has not VW,BMW,Honda,Toyota,Hyundai, and any other Auto Mfg. with Mfg.and Instatllation Plants in the United States approached The United States Public with a request for Financial aid? Also I think highly of my Impala and Ford even tho they were not manufactured here in the "United States".Maybe they have some parts made here who knows? Have a nice day.JC

Maybe do a little research on the "incentives" given to VW, BMW, Honda, Toyota, etc. most are in right to work states, lower wages than unionized, tax deferments on plants, plants built if they will use them, etc.

The incentives you refer to were offered up by the states and cities involved. Not unusual for a city or state to offer that. We have a "development corporation" in our town that will coordinate lower real estate taxes (in some cases zero the first year and then graduated upward in succeeding years) just to get corporations to locate. It's been quite successful and one of the biggest ones is a multi-national company that employs about 2400 people locally. Not a bad deal at all. As for wages paid to employees, Honda, Toyota and Nissan average $44 per hour vs "big three" at $73 per hour. Those numbers take into account everything and represent the total cost to employer.

Many years ago I bought a used Ford Falcon that was made in Canada....It was called a Falcolona..Looked identical but trim was different..Kinda sounds like a Mafia "ride".....

What I hate is having to learn a foreign language so I can properly cuss and swear while trying to be a back-yard mechanic.

(quoted from post at 09:20:17 12/07/08) Maybe do a little research on the "incentives" given to VW, BMW, Honda, Toyota, etc. most are in right to work states, lower wages than unionized, tax deferments on plants, plants built if they will use them, etc.

So why don't the "3" build plants in those states?

They brought this on themselves. Just because a union "demands" unreasonable wages, retirement, and healthcare doesn't mean you have to give in to them every time. Sure, the plants may have been shut down for a while, but a month or two of vehicle shortages on the lots would have been better than the mess they're in now!

And FWIW, the tag on my Honda Accord reads "Mfg in America"

Thank your unions I guess.......... I saw some new Mercedes' at a dealership that had paperwork on them that said made in the USA.

Dave

Way back when, I think more vehicles were built in Canada than the US. If you took almost any road vehicle manufacturer, I think you'd find that there is no such thing as a true made in the USA vehicle. Even Harley's which are about as american as you can get use mikuni carburetors and other foreign parts. Auto makers source parts and components from all over the world, same as tractor manufacturers. A lot of things won't say where they were made but will say assembled in the USA or other country where they were prepared for sale. Dave

My eggs come from a chicken I can see pecking around the hen house. Unless she"s flying to China every night to buy them, I am pretty sure my eggs are from the USA.

If thats the way you want it okay here but you had better count on taking your american dollars somewhere else to invest cause we arent going to let you invest here if we cant invest in the usa.

According to the news recently Gm is closing the chevy pickup plant in canada. They have made the silverado their for quite a few years. Also the camaro and some pontiacs cars.
I don't think you can blame the unions for the canada deals because canada auto shops have stronger unions then we do I think
Here is what was said on Lou Dobbs show last night. All major foreign auto makers are subsidized by their governments. Japan also has a deal that NO NEW cars can come into Japan unless Japan has a share of that auto. Now we know why Ford pickups have Mazda trannies, GM was partly owned by Japan as well as other companies. Sure sounds like we are getting the shaft.

Hey Paul, your right - your crops do go overseas, thats so we can import someone elses to feed us. Tell me if you see the logic in this.

[i:654c4848f0]"Why dont they give us the bailout money so we will spend it and get the economy rolling again ? "[/i:654c4848f0]

Because we'd probably spend most of it on beer and women, then waste the rest :)

Exactly, kind of interesting where the new Sec. of States husband made his fortune after all his deals to get trade with China.

You should check the number of times these plants move on when the tax incentives are gone. At one time plant machinery was depreciated on a 7 year basis and was usually obsolete/worn out and the tax "incentives" about to end, so it was easiest to say close the plant. Walmart has done this for years "incentives" to locate in an area and when they expire they open a new "super WM" across the street/down the road with a whole new "incentive" package and an abandon building on the tax base.
